The University of Nevada, Reno Libraries’ Special Collections and University Archives is seeking to hire a Reading Room Attendant who will be a member of our Public Services Team.

Responsibilities

• Greeting and assisting visitors

• Conducting basic reference interviews

• Using library software to identify items and manage their status in the system

• Maintaining security practices and enforcing reading room rules

• Assessing user requests for access to collection materials and determining if special circumstances apply

• Assisting with email reference and other queries

• Answering the phone

• Responding to visitor questions

• Recording statistics

• Sharing information about the department with visitors

• Opening and/or closing the reading room

• Preparing archival collections for use and/or inventorying collection items as time permits

• Dusting and maintaining the reading room and gallery space

Required Qualifications

• Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno

• Candidate must have an interest in history, education, librarianship, and/or museum studies

• Candidate must be available to work at least 10 - 20 hours weekly, in shifts of at least 2 hours in length

Preferred Qualifications

• Upper division undergraduate or graduate students

• Interest in history, education, and/or museum studies

• Prior library, archives, or museum experience

• Prior customer service desk experience

Schedule

Expected hours to work per week: 10-20

Hours to fall during times below:

• Monday: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

• Tuesday: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

• Wednesday: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

• Thursday: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Compensation Grade

Student Employee Level 2

$13.75/hr
