Job Description

Under the direction of the Assistant Pool Manager, the Lifeguard is responsible for supervision of the Yucaipa 7th Street Pool activities. Maximum of 950 hours per fiscal year.

Examples of Duties

The typical duties of this position include:
  • Swimming with proficiency and endurance;
  • Responding appropriately to emergencies;
  • Enforcing all pool regulations and policies;
  • Maintaining a professional attitude and appearance;
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with staff and patrons;
  • Providing excellent customer service to the general public;
  • Effectively communicating both, orally and in writing;
  • Maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly facility;
  • Perform daily and weekly maintenance tasks;
  • Create new ideas that will improve the aquatics programming;
  • Collect money for daily attendance and aquatics programs;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Experience/Education
A combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. The employee must have the knowledge of:
  • Principles and practices of water safety, rescue methods, lifesaving techniques, and first aid as applied to accidents in the water and surrounding pool areas;
  • Techniques and methods of swimming instruction for all age groups.
  • The incumbent must be at least fifteen (15) years of age to be a Lifeguard in accordance with the American Red Cross certification programs;
  • Anyone under the age of eighteen (18) and still in High School must have a valid work permit.
Licenses/Certifications
Possession of, and continuously throughout employment, the following certifications established by the American Red Cross:
  • Lifeguard and First Aid Training;
  • CPR/AED for Lifeguards or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer;
  • First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22).
Flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

This position requires sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, bending, stooping, squatting, and crouching in the performance of daily duties. This position also requires both near and far vision and acute hearing. This position will be working outdoors and may be exposed to extreme weather conditions.
