Job Description

SUMMARY OF JOB FUNCTION WITHIN DEPARTMENT.

Under minimum or no supervision may disassemble and assemble electro-mechanical assemblies as generators, GCU's, etc. that are returned for upgrade, overhaul or repair per the Component Maintenance Manual (CMM) Service Bulletins, Technical Data Sheets (TDS), blueprints or other written/verbal instructions that may apply. Perform advanced test functions/ troubleshooting per Acceptance Test Procedure (ATP's) and determine failure cause and write formal failure analysis. Evaluate current processes and make suggestions for product improvements based on failure analysis or observations made during the repair of units that will help improve the reliability. Help in setting up new test equipment and training others to perform test processes. Must be able to use microscope, to use simple machine such as lathes, drill press, induction heating system and balance machines. Must be solder certified to current solder specification, if required also solder inspector certified. Will be required to prepare detailed work and rework instructions based on customer requirements and CMM's, Service Bulletins etc. Prepare final documentation and close out work orders and submit product to inspection. Ability to work well and communicate with all departments and customers is essential.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

* May have to shape, connect and install coils, solder, braze and fuse connections.

* Perform complex installation, marking and cleaning process,

* May have to count, stack and bond laminations. Set up vacuum equipment; mix resins using weight-measuring system.

* May solder and assemble, electro-mechanical or mechanical assemblies/subassemblies using CMM's, Service Bulletins, blueprints, wiring diagrams and rework instructions to conform to quality specifications

* May help manufacturing engineer in new or upgrade tool designs.

* May solder connections and electronic components to circuit boards.

* May help in board level testing and troubleshooting.

* May be certified as solder inspector.

* Perform computer transactions in failure data- base, parts ordering system and e-mail system.

* May work from sketches to perform prototype assemblies with verbal or written instruction from engineering.

* May use induction- heating equipment to remove or reinstall mating parts together. May be required to set up heating system, Balancing machine

* May work with engineering to improve current process or products.

* Write up formal failure analysis.

* May read calipers and other advanced measuring tools

* May use microscope.

* Read written instructions and blue prints, May use hand and small electric tools.

* Use solder and coating equipment.

* Assist in training lower level assemblers and technicians

* Write/modify instructions as needed per the latest Service Bulletins or modifications.

* Use of final test equipment.

* May perform complex troubleshooting of products to identify failure mode

* Provide input to engineering on failure modes and trends.

* Evaluate current processes and request improvement.

* Participate in team meeting for problem solving

* Assist in other departments as needed

* Other equipment as required per work cell.

* May perform other duties as assigned by management.

* May have contact with customers via phone, fax, in person or e-mail.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE:

Must have knowledge of product line with actual hands on experience working in top assembly area of generators and permanent magnet alternators. Must be able to read a ruler, micrometer, and calipers. Be familiar with the use of hand tools, as screwdrivers, wrenches and pliers. Must have good eye/hand coordination. Computer skills required such as data input, word documents etc. Must have the ability to read complex instructions, blueprints and schematics. Must have knowledge of manufacturing processes in order to troubleshoot rejects and failures. Posses a basic knowledge of electronic testing equipment and their operation.. Ability to interpret and follow engineering prototype sketches. Assist in design changes with Engineering. Ability to read and interpret company documents, such as, safety rules, operating and manufacturing instructions, and Company policies and procedures. Have the ability to clearly communicate with all internal and external customers in English. Attention to details is a must. Must be able to make decisions on product acceptability through inspection and test.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High school graduate or equivalent. College/Vocational training required or equivalent work experience. Three years experience working with similar product type mechanical assemblies and 2 years experience as a Repair Tech...
