The Engagement Librarian is responsible for providing customer outreach, training, and support to the library community on behalf of our company and coordinating pre- and post-sales support to the Library Sales department.

Up to 30% travel is expected for this position. Candidates should be located in the territory.

SCOPE

The Engagement Librarian serves as a member of the Engagement Team within the North American Library Sales department. This position plays a key role in providing sales support to the Library Sales team, primarily by developing and executing training programs for customers, potential customers, and library sales professionals on the full product portfolio. The Engagement Librarian provides departmental support by developing strong relationships between our company and the library marketplace, and follows up on customer and industry issues from Sales Managers, Account Developers, and inbound inquiries from customers. The Engagement Librarian will work with internal stakeholders, including Marketing, Editorial, PMD, Account Support, Online Technical Support, and others as needed to provide outstanding customer service to both internal as well as external constituents.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • To improve the trial-to-sale closing rate and to drive customer retention, develop and deliver impactful online and in-person customer trainings to both individual institutions and consortia that effectively demonstrate an understanding of and ability to convey the mission and value of our products and content.
  • Clearly and completely compile and share with appropriate stakeholders any and all feedback received from external customers regarding products and/or training conducted.
  • Gain and proactively maintain product and market knowledge on our products and content through editorial, author, marketing, and customer communication.
  • Upon request from the Engagement Librarian and to help them in their preparation and pursuit of new sales, create effective, relevant, and customer-specific course content mapping or demo prep documents, clearly demonstrating how our products and content align with the customer's learning objectives or mission.
  • Conduct research to evolve our company's understanding of its buyer/user demographics, preferences, and needs for our resources, including interviews and focus groups and make recommendations for process changes based on identified trends.
  • Recommend specific products and solutions from our product portfolio based on identified customer needs, expectations and purchase history.
  • Provide librarian expertise, perspective, and guidance to site visits and teleconferences conducted with sales managers to positively influence customer buying decisions and to assist with difficult conversations.
  • Develop and deliver effective and impactful training on our products and relevant library trends to Library Sales and supporting departments, including assessments and homework.
  • Work effectively with Field Editor(s) to identify libraries that are not responding to known faculty interest and partner with Library Sales Manager(s) to develop a strategic approach to leverage the known faculty influence into a sales opportunity.
  • Work effectively with Library Marketing to develop effective and relevant onboarding and training materials for faculty and librarians.
  • Work effectively with company staff, including Library Marketing, Account Support, Editorial, and Sales colleagues to determine the most impactful means of communicating product benefits to librarians.
  • Develop and moderate events at conferences and events that establish our company as a consultative partner to librarians.
  • Track and maintain thorough records of all trainings conducted, both internal and external, following established Engagement team guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive program and project plan, clearly addressing all objectives outlined in yearly performance plan and detailed strategies that will be implemented to meet those objectives.
  • Manage project tasks, timelines, scheduling and deliverables with minimal supervision from manager.


GENERAL SKILLS AND EXPECTATIONS
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 30% as required throughout the US and Canada.
  • Work on special projects as assigned.
  • Attend library conferences as needed.
  • Provide exceptional customer service when dealing with potential or existing customers by providing requested product information, pricing proposals, and information in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate ability to develop and maintain positive and professional customer relationships.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:

  • ALA-accredited MLS or MLIS required
  • Bibliographic instruction experience required
  • Library Sales Support experience preferred
  • Experience working with library consortia preferred
  • Experience in the publishing industry or within academia preferred
  • Strong work ethic
  • Must be equally adept at working independently and within a team environment
  • Proficient in PC environment and must possess working knowledge of WebEx, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Familiarity and comfort in working with instructional technology is preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including excellent public presentation skills and ability to demonstrate technology/print products in person or electronically
  • Superior time management and organizational skills with strong attention to detail
  • Pleasant and persuasive telephone manner
  • Creative, competitive, strategic and persistent sales demeanor
  • Ethical and honest in all business relations

Compensation at Sage is influenced by several factors, including but not limited to skill set, nature and level of experience, qualifications, and other relevant considerations. The salary range for this position is $65K - $80K. Please note that the compensation details listed in U.S. role postings reflect the base salary only and do not include bonuses or benefits.
