Summary:

The CNC Setup/Programmer is responsible for laying out and developing programs for effective machining, reading and interpreting blueprints, planning sheets, sketches to determine tooling requirements, setup procedures, control settings & machining methods, entering commands to retrieve preprogrammed instructions from the data base or manually adjusting machine controls to correct malfunctions or out of tolerance machining. determining tooling needed for projects and helping operators to troubleshoot and find solutions while adhering to production schedules and following all established safety guidelines also is responsible for general preventative maintenance and communicating any maintenance needs to the Production Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Setting up machines to perform various functions such as drilling, cutting, milling, reaming, boring or broaching metal parts, utilizing knowledge of machine tool capabilities, machine ability of materials & shop math.
  • Entering commands from preprogrammed data base
  • Entering commands or manually adjusting machine controls to correct malfunctions or out of tolerance machining.
  • Mounting, aligning, and securing tooling attachments and parts on machine.
  • Selecting and installing cutting tools in machine spindles
  • Calculating & setting machine controls to position spindle in relationship to part and regulating factors such as cutting depth, speed, feed, and coolant flow.
  • Stopping machine to change cutting tools and setup according to required machining sequence or to measure parts for conformance to blueprint specifications, using precision measuring instruments.
  • Train operators to utilize skills needed to maintain quality products.
  • Adhere to production schedules.
  • Keep a safe clean work area following all safety procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Full understanding of machine operations
  • 1-4 years hands on experience as a set up/programmer in a production metal cutting environment.
  • G-Code programming using variables and macro -B arguments.
  • Visual inspection with the use of a dino-lite and small parts with attention to detail
  • Flexible, reliable, self-starting team player with the ability to work with little or no supervision.
  • Must have good communication skills.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand for several hours and lift or move up to 50lbs. The employee must have the ability to read, listen and communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing as well as hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of an emergency situation.
