Work Type: This position will require 12-19 hours of work during office hours. This is a hybrid position that requires some work onsite and other projects can be done remotely. Per Lambda Legal's Work From Home (WFH) Policy, Work From Office (WFO) and WFH options are available with supervisor approval.

Reports To: SRO Regional Program Coordinator

Compensation: $16 per hour

Hours: Monday - Friday; 12-19 hours per week

Internship Dates:

• The firstinternship will take place from June 10th - August 19th
• The second internship will take place from August 19th - October 26th

Lambda Legal is a national organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and everyone living with HIV through impact litigation, education and public policy work. About Joan Garner and Jane Morrison

Joan Garner and Jane Morrison have storied histories with Lambda Legal. Both served on Lambda Legal's National Board of Directors and Jane led the Southern Regional Office as its inaugural Regional Director. Prior to her passing in 2017, Joan served as a Fulton County Commissioner. Jane is currently a Fulton Country State Court Judge. Because of their leadership with Lambda Legal, legacies in Atlanta, and commitment to justice, the Southern Regional Office created the Joan Garner and Jane Morrison Movement Building Internship.

Responsibilities

Joan Garner and Jane Morrison Movement Building Interns work with Lambda Legal staff and volunteers to explore various aspects of LGBTQ rights work in the south, specifically in areas of race and gender. The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks including, but not limited to event planning and execution; correspondence with donors, volunteers and others; community outreach; conducting online research on a variety of topics; and various administrative tasks, including data entry. The intern's specific responsibilities will vary for the term depending on the office's needs. An intern is also welcome to focus on areas they are particularly interested in, subject to the office's needs.

Major projects will include:

• Supporting the SRO's major events in Fort Lauderdale and Atlanta

• Community Outreach to states across the Southern region

• Helping organize and coordinate 2024Pride events in Georgia

Qualifications

Interns will assist staff in combating all forms of LGBTQ+ and HIV discrimination. Thus, a background in, or familiarity with, related issues, legal or otherwise, will strengthen the application.

Candidates for the internship should possess the following qualities and experiences:

• A strong commitment to social justice, equality, and civil rights issues, particularly those involving the LGBTQ+ and HIV-affected communities.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks and projects

• Exceptional communication skills

• Demonstrated ability to think analytically and solve problems in a solutions-oriented way

• Ability to collaborate effectively with a team

• A commitment and desire to learn

• Experience working independently with the ability to self-motivate

• Willingness to be adaptable to change and a variety of tasks
