 SUMMARY OF POSITION:

 The Marine Outboard Mechanic and Harbor Maintenance position is responsible for the maintenance and repairing of all motorized marine vessels at both CIMI Toyon Bay and Fox Landing.  Additionally, this position will maintain and repair small boat trailers and repair moorings and floats as necessary. 

Supervisory Responsibilities

None

Primary Responsibilities

1. Diagnose and repair mechanical or electrical failures on Yamaha and Evinrude Outboard motors
2. Keep up preventative maintenance by performing any routine servicing including but not limited to oil changes, gear oil changes, impellor, and servicing of lines and fenders.
3. Make fiberglass repairs to hulls as necessary.
4. Reapply the bottom paint as necessary.
5. Deep clean boats as available but no less than once a month.
6. Clean, wash, and repair float as necessary.
7. Help maintain ramp lifts by oiling chains once a month.
8. Maintain records of repairs and services to each boat.
9. Maintain cleanliness and organization of Harbor workshop. 
10. Communicate purchasing needs directly to the supervisor.
11. Coordinate with the maintenance team to pull or launch boats. This may include driving the tractor or the boat.

Secondary Responsibilities

1.     Drive all boats.

1. Help with weekly freight runs, whether driving Cat, acting as crew, or driving the landing craft.
2. Help with staff logistics.
3. Help service and repair moorings and float as necessary. 

Required Qualifications

1.     High school diploma.

2.     Minimum 3 years of experience as an outboard mechanic or related field. 

3.     Effective oral and written communication.

4.     Basic computer operations.

5.     Basic organizational skills.

6.     Possess a valid driver’s license.

7.     Ability to work in a team environment.

Desired Qualifications

1.     Shall have experience as an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) certified mechanic with either Evinrude or Yamaha small outboard engines and equipment. 

2.     SCUBA Diving Certification and experience with cold water diving.

The employee member is frequently subject to extreme heat, with temperatures up to 80-95 degrees with humidity of 75 – 100 % while moving around in and outside of camp. The employee member is frequently subject to loud noise when working in or around the camp. The employee member is subject to hazards which include proximity to moving mechanical parts, equipment found in kitchens and food service areas, sharp objects, and exposure to cleaning chemicals and animals. Other hazards may include slick floors and hot stoves, cookware, plateware ware or glassware. The employee member is occasionally subject to atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, or dust.
