JOB TITLE: Safety Coordinator & Trainer

DEPARTMENT: Production

FLSA: hourly-paid, non-exempt

REPORTS TO: HR Manager

REVISED: 8/3/2021

Pay Rate $20-$25

OBJECTIVE: Manages site safety program and practices. Responsible for training new employees for production positions. Training encompasses all safety, operations, sanitation, and minor maintenance required. Also responsible for training existing employees when equipment or processes change and when employees move to a new position.

Essential Functions

A) Promotes safety culture by leadership & example

B) Partner with management to develop training for new hires and refresher training when required

C) Responsible for training new employees for production positions. This will require a variety of training methods, including but not limited to video’s, handouts, training manuals, demonstration and hands-on training

D) Responsible for delivering all aspects of safety training, including but not limited to: Lock-out Tag-out, SDS, Hazardous materials, safety equipment. Coordinates monthly safety meeting with operations.

E) Assures daily hazard and fork-lift safety assessments are completed and addressed daily

F) Responsible for conducting incident investigation and root cause analysis

G) Responsible for site SIP program

H) Responsible for overseeing training in all aspects of operations – start-up and shut-down procedures, routine operation

I) Coordinate training schedule with Human Resources and operations

J) Certifies employees that have successfully completed training and are qualified to operate without supervision.

K) Document & record training results and other paperwork

L) Manage site safety program. Disseminate training tools, materials, and information to field locations. Remain abreast of safety requirements and manage changes and updates as required. Conduct monthly safety meetings.

M) Follow all safety rules and requires trainees to do the same

N) Requires the ability to stand and walk for a minimum 8-hour shift

O) Requires the ability to constantly lift, carry, push, and pull 30 pounds

P) Reliable, on-site attendance required, Monday through Friday, with occasional work during off-shifts and weekends.

Q) Conduct periodic safety evaluations of employee’s

 

Other Duties

A) Report hazards, defective materials and equipment problems to management

B) Work collaboratively with people at all levels of the organization. Treat all employees with respect.

C) Make process improvement suggestions, including implementation plans

D) Occasionally may be required to lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds

E) May require travel to other locations

F) At all times, be a leader in the facility

G) Participate in special projects as required

 

Reporting Relationship

A) Reports to the HR Manager

B) Works closely with management team, Safety Manager and HR

Minimum Qualifications

A) High School Diploma or equivalent

B) Bilingual English & Spanish

C) Ability to learn and perform all essential functions and other duties, with or without reasonable accommodation

D) Experience in conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis

E) Must be able to understand verbal and written directions, and must be a clear, concise communicator, both verbally and in writing

F) Experience using Microsoft outlook and word

G) Must be able to accurately complete paperwork

H) Must be able to continuously lift, carry, push, pull a minimum of 30 pounds

I) Must be able to stand and walk for a minimum 8-hour shift

J) Ability to work well with people at all levels of the organization

 

Preferred Qualifications

A) Prior experience in manufacturing environment

B) Prior experience in paper manufacturing

C) Prior experience as a trainer

 

Skills

· Must be able to read and interpret documents, including but not limited to: Safety Rules, SDS, Lock-out Tag-out, operations manuals

· Must be able to understand, follow and communicate safety rules

· Must be able to analyze trainee progress, complete training evaluations, discuss training performance with employees and management

· Must be able to speak effectively

· Must be friendly, encouraging, respectful to all employees at all times

· Must be motivated to train others to succeed

· Must be able to function both independently and as a member of a team

 

Physical Environment/Working Conditions

This position is in a manufacturing facility, where there is heavy machinery, forklift traffic, temperature fluctuations occur throughout the year, and eye and hearing protection is required.
