About the Position


The Department of Youth Development & Social Innovation is seeking qualified individuals for our hourly positions of:

  • Safekey/Relnvent Site Assistant
  • Safekey/Relnvent Site Leader

The Safekey and ReInvent Before- and After-School Programs offer enrichment and engagement programming during out-of-school time hours at 68 Clark County School District elementary schools within the city of Las Vegas. These programs provide a safe environment where children in grades kindergarten- 5th can engage in fun educational and recreational activities, work on homework, and have a nutritious snack under the supervision of caring staff role models.

Salary: $14- $16 Hourly

Supervision Received
Receives general supervision from higher level supervisory or management staff.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Duties include but are not limited to:

Safekey/RAP Site Assistant:


Performs routine, entry-level work under close supervision; conducts programs for children, Kindergarten-5th grade, at satellite elementary schools; ensures the safety of participants is maintained at all times through consistent supervision and active engagement throughout the program; models enthusiasm, innovation, motivation, initiative and involvement; facilitates, leads and participates in structured program activities, and established program curriculum on a daily/weekly basis to include APPLE CORE reading, Reader's Theater, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics), CATCH physical activities arts and crafts, recreational games, outside playtime, homework time, and other special activities; assists in enforcing site safety and sign-in and sign-out procedures; assists as needed with the completion of program components and paperwork/documentation such as snack distribution/sheets, fire drills, citizen incident reports, inappropriate behavior tracking reports, attendance, as well as computer-related tasks such as participant check-in/out, APPLE CORE tracking etc.; opens and/or closes program sites and assists with set up/take down of program/special event equipment and supplies; cleans area and equipment as directed; provides assistance to full-time or part-time classified staff or designee; performs other related duties as assigned.

Safekey/RAP Site Leader:

Site Leader duties encompass that of a Site Assistant and in addition include but are not limited to: Provides oversight and supervision of the before- and after-school program participants and Site Assistants; ensures the planning, programming and execution of the daily schedule and program curriculum are being implemented; ensures programs and activities are structured to best meet participants' needs; submits a weekly/monthly calendar of activities; monitors site inventory and prepares supply and equipment requests as needed; conducts fire drills, provides reports, ensures participant records are organized and maintained; assists with parent behavior meetings and gives input on behavior plans; communicates with program parents regarding site concerns, participant behavior, incidents, etc. communicates with full-time or part-time classified staff with regard to assigned site, parents/guardians and program activities, submits special events to assigned supervisor for preapproval; monitors work performance of assigned Site Assistants and reports performance to assigned supervisor; performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Safekey/Relnvent Site Assistant/Site Leader:

  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • Child and Adult First Aid and CPR Certification at time of start/reclassification.
  • Need to maintain the physical agility necessary to demonstrate and maintain sports, and other recreation games and activities, move and maintain equipment, and other physical activities as needed to provide the safety, welfare and security necessary.
  • Formal and informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
  • Experience using technology such as iPad, printer, cell phone, and internet based applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalency (HSE) Credential.
  • Experience working with children in a group setting.
  • Bilingual skills are desirable.
