Job description

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for conducting preoperative testing and patient counseling. Monday-Friday. NO nights or weekends. Part-time or Full-time options available.

POSITION DUTIES:

The position requires the following primary duties to be successful:

1) Philosophy:

a) Supports the facility’s ideology, mission, goals, and objectives

b) Performs in accordance with the facility’s policies and procedures

e) Recognizes patients’ rights and responsibilities and supports them in performance of job duties

f) Participates in staff meetings and in-services, and center activities.

2) Communication:

a) Communicates effectively and professionally with patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers

b) Interacts with others in a positive, respectful, and considerate manner

3) Position Duties:

a) Effectively organizes time, equipment, and supplies.

b) Uses equipment effectively by anticipating patient needs and providing appropriate care

c) Confirms that proper techniques and procedures are used according to accepted standards of care.

d) Assists in inventory of supplies, drugs, and equipment to maintain availability and stock levels in preoperative area.

e) Maintains order and cleanliness in preoperative area.

f) Performs thorough preoperative patient assessment required in the outpatient setting.

g) Assists in assessing the physical and emotional status of the patient during the admission process.

h) Provides the preoperative instruction and explanation of patient rights and responsibilities

i) Describes the peri-operative experience to the patient, including what to expect before and after the procedure.

j) Performs preoperative testing (i.e., blood pressure, glucose, and pregnancy testing) and reports abnormal values to the physician.

k) Obtains necessary signatures.

l) Discusses all relevant findings with the physician prior to the physician’s preoperative assessment of the patient.

m) Documents preoperative care according to policy/procedure.

n) Interacts professionally with physicians, patients, families, and others.

o) Help patients with their needs and concerns.

p) Ensure patient’s safety and comfort during and immediately after the procedure.

q) Respect the confidentiality of patient, center, and physician related information.

r) Maintain confidentiality of patient records, and use complete discretion when discussing patient information

s) Perform all other assigned job duties by nurse, administrator, or providers.

t) Establishes and maintains effective communication and good working relationship with co-workers for the patient’s benefit.

u) Utilizes initiative; strives to maintain steady level of productivity; self-motivated. Organization and management of staff member’s activities reflect due consideration for the needs of the facility and staff.

v) When the Director of Nursing is not physically present at the facility, the preoperative nurse will serve as the Alternate Director of Nursing.

w) Completes other duties, as assigned.

4) Position Expectations:

a) Meets dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean.

b) Completes annual education requirements, as required by the facility.

c) Always maintains patient confidentiality.

d) Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.

e) Wears identification while on duty and utilizes timeclock correctly.

f) Attends in-services as required by the facility.

g) Attends quarterly staff meetings. If staff meetings occur during a period of approved absence (i.e., PTO) follow-up with management on items that were covered.

h) Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.

i) Communicates the mission, ethics, and goals of the facility.

6) Position Requirements:

a) Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

b) RN or LPN with active license in Georgia.

c) Current ACLS and other required training.

d) Bi-lingual, while not required, is preferred.

e) Understanding of procedures performed at Atlas Surgery Center of Buckhead, LLC.

f) Ability to work independently with detail and accuracy

g) Ability to apply common sense, understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form

h) Familiar with office equipment such as printers, scanners, fax machines, and copiers.

i) Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to apply logic and draw conclusions based on knowledge. Have the ability to refer to reference materials to solve problems.

j) Must be able to type words and numbers quickly and accurately; must comply with HIPAA confidentiality standards when accessing or communicating patient information.

k) Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
