Primary Care Physician - Pediatrics
$220,000 - $258,824
POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides medical care and treatment to Brockton Neighborhood Health Center patients in accordance with professional standards and established Brockton Neighborhood Health Center policies and procedures.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Provides direct patient care services within Pediatrics.
  2. Assesses, plans, documents, and evaluates patient needs and treatments. Ensures appropriate follow up.
  3. Maintains a practice that is culturally and linguistically sensitive, using interpreters and other assistance as appropriate.
  4. Designs a plan of care based on assessment of physical, emotional, and social needs and in collaboration with the patient and, if appropriate, the family.
  5. Refers patients, as appropriate, to specialists and other practitioners and facilities.
  6. Reviews patient charts and ensures that appropriate treatment plans are developed and followed.
  7. Demonstrates sensitivity and responds to verbal and non-verbal communications of patients, families and co-workers.
  8. Maintains patient’s right to privacy, assuring dignity in the provision of care and is discreet in all communications, written and oral.
  9. Consistently utilizes good judgment in the resolution of problems, clinical and non-clinical.
  10. Collaboratively works with other caregivers regarding patient education and rehabilitation including promotion of mental and physical health.
  11. Maintains collaborative relationship with other physicians, administration, and other clinical staff. Furnishes professional guidance and assistance to colleagues and other staff. Utilizes skills and expertise of other disciplines to ensure comprehensive care for all patients.
  12. Visits hospitalized patients as necessary; serves on rotating on-call schedules.
  13. Cooperates with efforts of the Patient Care Committee to monitor and improve the quality of patient care provided.
  14. Full time physicians are expected to see at least 4200 patient visits per year.
HIV INFECTIOUS DISEASE
  1. Provides ongoing education and support to HIV clients regarding medication and treatment regimens, including information on resistance, dosing and side effects.
  2. Provides education on HIV/AIDS and treatment to client’s family and support network as identified by the client.
  3. Reviews lab reports and makes clinically appropriate treatment recommendations.
  4. Participates in a multidisciplinary team.
  5. Assist patients and families in the adjustment of problems related to or precipitated by illness and/or HIV diagnosis.
  6. Works with the HIV Team and the Consumer Advisory Board to provide culturally congruent services.
  7. Documents all activities.
QUALITY IMPROVEMENT:
  1. Participates in ongoing evaluation and performance improvement activities.
  2. Participates in devising, reviewing and revising policies, procedures and protocols.
CAREER DEVELOPMENT:
  1. Attends and actively participates in scheduled staff meetings.
  2. Participates in professional staff teaching, both formal and informal.
  3. Maintains clinical competence through ongoing medical education and training.
  4. Maintains admitting privileges at Good Samaritan Medical Center and/or Brockton Hospital.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Maintains current Massachusetts licensure and maintains current certifications, where appropriate.
  2. Board certified or eligible in pediatrics. If board eligible, actively pursues board certification.
  3. Ability to develop and work with a multi-disciplinary team, including mid-levels, social workers and case managers.
  4. Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, French, or Haitian Creole is highly desirable. Previous experience in ambulatory care and/or public health preferred.
  5. Previous experience in ambulatory care and/or public health preferred.
  6. Computer literate in electronic medical record.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
A busy community health center located in a downtown business district.
Occasional long hours may be required.
Potential exposure to patient blood and body fluids.
Some travel required to state and national conferences.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical demands requiring lifting of small pieces of equipment and/or boxes not to exceed 20 pounds. Mostly sedentary and interoffice walking required. Visual acuity sufficient for frequent reading. Hearing acuity sufficient for holding conversations with or without audio devices.
TRAVEL, WORK HOURS:
  1. Occasional statewide or national travel possible for CME/conferences.
  2. Includes evening and weekend hours.
  3. 24/7 call during days on call.

Additional vaccines may be required based on the recommendation of the CDC. New hires who are not yet vaccinated for flu or COVID can arrange to be vaccinated on site.
