Position Title: Warehouse Associate

Job Summary: Coordinates and performs general receiving, warehouse, and distribution operations.

Reports To: Food Services Manager

Qualifications:

Experience in operating and maintaining warehouse equipment and vehicles, as well as organizing deliveries with vendors and donors. This role requires responsibility for coordination with the Food Services Manager regarding food donations and inventory.

Candidates must have a passion for fulfilling the mission of The Salvation Army and must be articulate in presenting the same to others.

Candidates must successfully pass the pre-employment background inquiry and annual motor vehicle check with a valid driver's license.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience considered. Forklift experience and certification necessary.

Skills:

  • Ability to manage people and projects successfully efficiently and effectively.
  • Team player, self-starter, and perform well with minimal supervision.
  • Must have an interest and ability to work with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner.
  • Ability to establish policies and procedures, holding others accountable to the same.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience or capacity to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills and work as a cooperative team member.
  • Proficiency in computer software applications, including demonstrated experience in using email and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must be able to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary. Especially in emergent situations.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assist with maintain the warehouse contents in an organized manner to ensure safety and security of contents.
    • Follow established procedures for the organization, storage, and access of warehouse contents.
    • Participate in maintaining an updated inventory of contents.
  • Assist with day-to-day warehouse activities.
    • Provide organization and preparation for the community food pantry program.
    • Palletize and shrink wrap warehouse product as necessary.
    • Ensure the warehouse equipment such as Forklifts, Power Jacks, etc. are safely stored, prepared for work, and charged as necessary.
    • Participate in ensuring that warehouse materials are effectively received, tracked and easily accessible.
    • Responsible for the pickup and delivery from local community partners including Midwest Food Bank, Meal Deliveries, and local donations.
  • Participate in the maintaining the warehouse property on a regularly scheduled basis.
    • Assist with monitoring warehouse property and systems.
    • Assist with the maintenance of grounds on scheduled basis as needed including snow removal and ice prevention.
    • Participate in the schedule for general facility cleaning and organization.
    • Ensure the preventative maintenance plan for the warehouse facility is followed.
  • Holiday tasks.
    • Prepare warehouse for food basket distribution, including the unloading of

baskets for distribution and loading of baskets for programs and housing facilities.

    • Participate in the delivery of all holiday food boxes to local Corps and Community partners.
    • Arrange and deliver coat barrels and coat donations.
    • Deliver and pick up barrels of food from schools, churches, organizations etc.
    • Deliver Angel tree tags to organizations and pick up gifts when ready.
    • Delivery of toys when needed.
    • General assistance with the annual Red Stocking event.
  • Assist in maintain a secure facility, including access of locked and stored materials and confidential areas.
  • Participate in maintain accurate warehouse records to be compliant with statistical reporting.
  • Provide overall support and coordination, as needed, across Campus operations in support of mission-based tasks.
  • Maintain positive work atmosphere through appropriate conflict management, courteous demeanor, and professional and appropriate communication practices.
  • Maintain compliance in The Salvation Army's "Safe from Harm" Certification and other legally required trainings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned as related to warehouse operations and food service needs in support of those served.

Local travel is required.

Position Ranking:

  • Regular Full Time, Non-Exempt

Physical Demands/ Work Environment:

This Position is required to do light to moderate physical work. To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the individual is regularly required to be able to talk and listen, use hands, walk, sit, and stand for extended periods of time. Individual must be capable of frequently lifting 70 pounds, and occasionally lifting more than 100 pounds. Frequently lifts or moves 100 pounds or more with assistance of another person/forklift/floor jack/dolly/cart or truck. Majority of lifting is from floor to waist high. Some lifting required above waist and shoulder high, but it will be at a reduced weight. Position is expected to: Bend, stoop, crouch, stand, walk, carry and push/pull items. The use of office and computer equipment is necessary. Vision abilities will require close vision. Work may be performed indoors, with most of this work in a warehouse or outside. Temperatures will fluctuate with the weather.
