FINAL INSPECTOR/PACKER

General Purpose:

Responsible for cutting paper and setting the tables; responsible for visually inspecting glass, making a determination as to whether it is within the workmanship standard #1 (customer specification) NOTE: Wearing personal protective equipment, as defined in the work instruction for this job, is mandatory.

Essential Functions:

Paper-Cutting

· Goes to the floor 5 minutes early on the day that they are assigned to the paper cutter/reliever role to communicate with the paper-cutters/relievers from the previous shift about the current job being run and the upcoming jobs

· Makes sure that there is enough paper for the current job on the tables

· When running back to back jobs has paper ready on the tables for the next job

· Prepares paper and sets on the tables for final inspectors using the production schedule and paper-size table (if not sure what size of paper is needed for the job always ask the supervisor)

· Is able to estimate how much paper is needed for the job and cuts the appropriate amount of paper

· Puts the right amount of paper into the paper-cutter machine to avoid damaging the machine

· Makes sure that they leave enough paper for the next shift to get started (this is especially important when small jobs are being run)

· Keeps the paper-cutting area neat and organized by storing any extra cut paper on the shelves or in a properly-labeled box

· Helps packers on the line or does other duties as assigned by the production supervisor during long runs and when standard-size paper (e.g. 14 x 24) is being used

· Relieves the final inspectors for breaks and lunches

· Takes part in regular pollution clean ups (cleaning the packers’ area)

· Ensures that paper is ready for the next jobs when running small jobs

Final Inspecting/Packing

· Accurately inspects glass at a rate consistent

· Visually inspects glass, looking for defects (i.e. scratches, chips, smoke, chemical spots, even coating, water marks, slivers).

· Using appropriate quality workmanship standards, distinguishes between acceptable and unacceptable defects on the glass.

· Wraps the glass in appropriate manner (e.g. without slamming the glass against each other) according to customer requirements

· Marks bundle with his/her ID stamp

· Packs bundle into appropriate container, ensuring that rows are neat and straight with paper without causing any handling defects

· Records glass rejected by defect, using mechanical counters

· Alerts tempering oven technician when a problem reoccurs on the line by sounding the horn one time when no glass is traveling on conveyor or twice for hot roller marks.

· Cleans work area as needed or directed

· Alerts Production Supervisor or Quality Assurance Technician if a repeating problem on the line is detected

· Re-inspects suspect glass under the direction of the Quality Assurance Technician or Management

· Does all other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements:

· Completion of primary school with related experience or three-months related experience and/or training. High school diploma or GED is preferred.

· An individual is considered qualified upon notification by the PS or department head to the DHR that the employee has successfully completed the training and is qualified to perform the position. Notation of this notification is made in the employee’s training record.

· Basic knowledge of English (ability to understand work instructions and to provide additional information during the production)

· Basic math skills (i.e. ability to do simple counting operations)

· Ability to apply common sense understanding to oral and/or written instructions provided by the Production Supervisor
