Internship Overview: The Child Protection Program Intern will assist the Child Protection Caseworker in the provision of case management services to unaccompanied children as they adjust to their new lives in the community. The intern will have the opportunity to play a key role in providing organizational support to the caseworker in South Florida by performing various clerical and administrative duties and helping build a strong network with community providers who can provide key services to clients.


Learning Objectives:


The intern will gain knowledge of solution-oriented, strengths-based care coordination for immigrant children and their families.
The intern will develop problem-solving skills, client service skills, and intercultural social work skills.
The intern will develop skills in mapping community assets and resources.
The intern will develop skills in client empowerment and advocacy.
The intern will develop skills in research and compiling essential data.

Major Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Map community assets and help make referrals to community partners.
Assist the caseworkers with building and maintaining case files to ensure that all requirements for documentation are met consistently throughout the provision of Post Release Services.
Research services, resources, and community events that would support the integration of the clients.
Help support small projects in collaboration with the development team to increase the visibility of the Child Protection Program.
Translate documents into Spanish.
Other duties as assigned.

Please note this is an unpaid internship. Interns must be based in Miami. Minimum Qualifications:

INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS:

Excellent communication and writing skills
Required - Bilingual ability in English and Spanish
Organized with attention to detail
Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding client information
Able to work independently and under pressure
An interest in international and immigrant issues
Creativity and initiative to follow through on projects
Strong desire to help people and enthusiasm for working in a multi-cultural setting
Computer literacy - preferably with PC systems
Minimum three-month commitment. Able to commit 12-15 hours a week.
