Position Summary:

The Certified Medical Assistant provides coordinated care to a variety of patients enrolled in Psychiatric services. While functioning as part of the interdisciplinary care team, assists with the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of the Physician/Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists with treatments ordered by physician as supervised by physician or registered nurse
  • Performs select clinical duties to include observing and reporting patients' signs or symptoms and administering injections.
  • Interviews patients, measures vital signs, and records information on patients' charts
  • Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients
  • Performs basic materials management functions to include ordering and stocking of supplies.
  • Assists with maintaining a clean and orderly environment
  • Orients and educates patients and their families to Psychiatric Services, helps to develop interdisciplinary care plan and other case management tools by participating in meetings; coordinating information and care requirements with other care providers; resolving issues that could affect smooth care progression; providing education to others regarding the treatment process.
  • Functions as the primary liaison between patients and Psychiatric providers by trianing patient requests, dispensing medications, and coordinating resources necessary to obtain services and medications, including direct coordination with pharmacies and insurance companies.
  • Monitors delivery of care; documenting care; intervening to overcome deviations in the expected plan of care; reviewing the care plan with patients in conjunction with the Psychiatric providers; interfacing with involved departments to negotiate and expedite scheduling, consultations, and acquiring medications.
  • Maintaining ongoing communication with the care team regarding transfers and discharge plans, and working with psychiatric providers to facilitate timely admission and discharge of patients.
  • Contributes to appropriate databases by entering new information as it becomes available
  • Generates and delivers requested reports and status updates to the Psychiatric Providers/Clinical Manager.
  • Meets performance standards for productivity, accuracy and quality of work, customer service, teamwork, attendance and punctuality as well as projects/objectives.
  • Follows agency policies regarding confidentiality and other consumer rights
  • Represents the agency in a professional manner within the community
  • Works well with professionals from other agencies
  • Participates in supervision and staff meetings, multi-disciplinary team meetings and other meetings as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:

This position normally requires that physical demands of standing, walking, bending, lifting or performing other work requiring low physical exertion, talking and hearing on a regular basis to perform the job requirements. These physical demands are required up to 80% of the time. Position also requires ability to drive with adequate vision and skill.

Non-Physical Requirements:

Education

  • High School Diploma
  • Post-secondary school and competition of an accredited Certified Medical Assistant college program, required

Experience

  • Previous physicians office experience, preferred

Special Skills

  • Knowledge and skills to work with chronically mentally ill population
  • Familiarity with mental health services preferred
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required
  • Good understanding of Catholic Charities Policies and Procedures
  • Possess and utilize effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to be self-motivated, work independently and as a team member
  • Ability to represent the agency in a professional manner within the community
  • Culturally competent in delivering services to individuals from distinct backgrounds
  • Good computer skills including an ability to learn an Electronic Health Record system
  • Possesses ability to manage data
  • Requires the ability to work flexible hours, including evenings
  • May require travel in the community

Licensure, Registration, Certification

  • American Association of Medical Assistants in Washington State, required
  • Basic Life Support Certificate upon hire
  • Blood Borne Pathogen Training upon hire
  • Valid Washington State drivers license and agency minimum required liability insurance

Employment is conditional upon:

  • Being cleared by criminal background check and fingerprinting when required
