ABOUT THE ROLE:

Ward Village, a Howard Hughes master-planned community, is a 60-acre master-planned community in the heart of Honolulu, located between downtown and Waikk, along O'ahu's south shore. Honoring the distinct history of its land, Ward Village is at the forefront of sustainable community development - integrating dynamic architecture, local culture, and public open space. At full build-out, the community will include approximately one million square feet of unique retail and thousands of homes, in what Architectural Digest named "Best-Planned Community in the United States."

We are currently seeking a Culture + People Manager based at the Ward Village office, primarily supporting the Hawaii region. In partnership with the regional leadership team and the Vice President, Culture + People - West Region, this position is responsible for managing and administering all Culture + People related functions, programs and initiatives.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Direct responsibility for managing several Culture + People functions including employee relations, benefits administration, performance, compensation, training, records administration, safety and other employee services.

  • Assists management in planning, development, implementation and evaluation of Culture + People programs.

  • Sources feedback and develops strategies that balance the needs of employees and management with relation to employee services and policy alignment.

  • Responsible for partnering with the Vice President, Culture + People - West Region as well as the corporate Culture + People team on decisions relating to payroll, benefits administration, training, performance evaluations, compensation and terminations.

  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and managers, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate department/team.

  • Participates in the planning, preparation and end-product for organizational leadership reviews.

  • Responsible for all employment transactions for the Hawaii region including: job offers, pre-employment, hires, terminations, pay changes, reporting structure changes, promotions, transfers, etc.

  • Update the corporate Payroll team with any employee changes that impact payroll.

  • Partner with the corporate Talent Acquisition team and the local department leaders on the talent acquisition process, which may include: job requisitions, job descriptions, recruitment/sourcing efforts, interviewing and scheduling interviews of qualified job applicants and job offer approvals. Also work with local agencies for contractors, temporary staffing and consultant needs.

  • Provides employee relations support, including conflict resolution, disciplinary action and performance improvement counseling.

  • Provide support and guidance to the management team and other team members when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.

  • Participates and leads employee disciplinary meetings, investigations and terminations.

  • Working with the Vice President, Culture + People - West Region, the Vice President, Diversity + Talent Development and the Senior Manager, Learning and Development, this position will develop, implement and facilitate training programs for management and employees on a variety of topics including, but not limited to, performance management, diversity, leadership, soft skills, customer service, etc.

  • Responsible for onboarding tasks, new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.

  • Partner with IT on new hires and terminations related to equipment, system access, etc.

  • Partner with regional leadership and management to understand, plan and execute employee engagement programs, talent needs, retention strategies and succession planning.

  • Partner with Regional President and regional leadership teams to implement corporate initiatives. This includes programs such as the scholarship program and DEI, ESG and Social Responsibility initiatives.

  • Work with the Executive Vice President, National Condominium Sales & Strategy and Vice President, Sales Operations with drafting, interpreting and administering the Sales Executives employment agreements and any applicable addendums in partnership with legal. Assist the Accounting team with commission and draw for the Sales Executives if necessary. Additionally, this position will manage the staffing, payroll changes and contract addendums for the Japan gallery with our global 3rd party administrator.

  • Analyze results of annual employee satisfaction survey and assist Regional President in implementing action plans and communication strategies.

  • Address all employee inquiries within the region and escalate to appropriate department or person as necessary.

  • Support local management with data inquiries and reporting needs utilizing the HRIS system, Workday.

  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; review policies and practices to maintain compliance.

  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes and technologies in human resources, talent management and employment law.

  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, code of business ethics and conduct training, preventing workplace harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.

  • Respond to all internal audit/SOX compliance requests and provide required documentation/evidence for controls testing.

  • Provide ad-hoc reports and data from HRIS system upon request.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

ABOUT YOU:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required.

  • Minimum 5 years of Human Resources Generalist experience encompassing broad experience across all areas of Human Resources with a proven track record of success.

  • Proficient with MS Office applications including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams.

  • Working knowledge of Workday strongly preferred.

  • Experience working within a hybrid centralized/decentralized business model as well within a shared services environment.

  • This position will be required to work in office Tuesday - Thursday each week and must be available to work in office on Mondays and Fridays as the business needs dictate.
