ROMCO is currently seeking an experienced Aggregate Equipment Field Technician to join the team supporting the Carmine, TX branch operations.

The Ideal candidate will have surface drill and portable aggregate experience.

Job Purpose

The MPS Division Field Technician is responsible for the repair of construction machines, component assemblies, and parts in the shop and field, including diagnosing, parts ordering, technical report writing, warranty reporting, maintaining care of company assets, and proper communication with others. This position reports to and is under general supervision of the Assistant Division Manager.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Repair equipment and components, including
  • Development of a repair plan and sequence
  • Determining necessary parts, materials, tooling, etc.
  • Performing repairs properly and safely, with proper quality assurance testing of repair component or system and machine
  • Maintain and complete all necessary reports legibly and in a timely fashion for parts ordering, special tooling usage, daily service reports, and work order closure
  • Communicate progress of repair with direct supervisor as required
  • Retrieve & return of parts and/or materials through Company’s parts ordering system
  • Retrieve & return of special tools through Company’s Tool Room. Maintain proper care and use of special tools including major shop equipment, such as but not limited to, air compressor, cleaning tanks, overhead and jib cranes, etc.
  • Use Company vehicle, service truck, and fuel cards properly including notifying supervisor immediately of any issues with the vehicle
  • Maintain work area and/or service vehicle in a safe and clean manner
  • Maintain tools & tool carrier in a safe, productive, and updated manners
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures
  • Other duties and projects as assigned

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements

  • Operation and maintenance requirements of heavy-duty construction equipment
  • Hazards and Safety precautions of trade
  • The care and use of hand and power tools employed in all phases of heavy equipment mechanical maintenance and repair work
  • The use of servicing equipment such as A/C recycler, hydraulic jack, or emission analyzer
  • Ability to diagnose defects in heavy equipment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Possess strong and effective customer service skills
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism and integrity
  • Display excellent judgement at all time

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Associate Degree in Diesel or Equipment Technology or four (4) Years of apprenticeship experience preferred
  • Three to five years of related experience
  • Surface drill experience and portable aggregate a plus
  • MSHA training or certification a plus

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be alert and is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds long distances (more than 20 feet). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position requires the use and operation of a vehicle. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable people with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

Working Conditions and Additional Requirements

This job operates in an office and field environment. Office hours are from 8:00am to 5:00pm with occasional needs outside standard business hours to accommodate meetings, training, and projects. Some travel and overnight stays may be required. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

This position routinely requires use of personal or company vehicles on company business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record. Employees in this position will be subject to random Motor Vehicle Record and alcohol and drug testing as a condition of continued employment.
