Position Overview
The Publication Graphics Designer - Senior is responsible for creating visual elements, including the cover design and visual layout design for publishing publications. Creating visual elements for the development of doctrinal publications and including non-doctrinal publications such as Military Intelligence Professional Bulletin. Using digital illustration, photo editing software, and layout software to create visual elements such as covers, logos, original images, illustrations, and visual-page layouts that assist in delivering the intended message for the publication. Ensures visual elements provide the greatest clarity in style and format, complying with governing standards, including Army publication guidelines.
Responsibilities / Duties
  • Engage the writing team and editor early in the writing process with to ensure logical organization of drafts.
  • Research doctrinal and non-doctrinal articles and publications to develop visual elements that accurately support the theme and tonality of the designated publication.
  • Provide recommendations and subject matter expertise to the Government in the layout and design of publications.
  • Advise editor and author on how visual elements can best support the text within assigned publication.
  • Ensure a consistent format among visual elements within a single publication.
  • Advise, assist editor on typography and layout.
  • Advise, select colors, images, and typefaces.
  • Advise on the detailed layout of master visual elements.
  • Incorporate editor and author revisions and review layout for errors and correct them before the Government designated due date.
Minimum Requirements
  • Active Secret or Interim Secret security clearance.
  • Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to use them to interact and communicate effectively and professionally with the technical staff, especially technical writers, and editors.
  • Possess creativity and artistic aptitude, attention to detail, and strong proofreading skills.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in graphic design, including graphic fundamentals.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience using core creation tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud programs, including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.
Preferred Skills/Knowledge
  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design or related field.
  • Experience related to design and publication of Army publications.
  • Experience related to MI Doctrine.
Physical Demands
  • Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
  • Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds occasionally and walk short distances.
  • Repetitive motion.
  • Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing: viewing a computer monitor; extensive reading.
