Job Description
Our Cytotechnologist will stain, mount, and review of 15-20 slides per day, Tuesday - Saturday to detect evidence of cancer, hormonal abnormalities, and other pathological conditions following established standards and practices.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Microscopically examine and diagnose gynecologic and non-gynecologic slides for infectious, pre-malignant, and malignant disease processes.
Assist with setting up the lab and running validation studies
Examines cell samples to detect abnormalities in the color, shape, or size of cellular components and patterns. Submits slides with abnormal cell structures to pathologists for further examination. Documents specimens by verifying patients and specimens information.
- Prepares and analyzes samples such as papanicolaou (PAP) smear body fluids and fine needle aspirations (FNAs) to detect abnormal conditions.
- Maintains effective laboratory operations by adhering to standards of specimen collection, preparation, or laboratory safety. Adjusts, maintains, or repairs laboratory equipment such as microscopes.
- Performs karyotyping or organizing of chromosomes according to standardized ideograms.
- Assigns tasks or coordinates task assignments to ensure adequate performance of laboratory activities.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of principles of biology and medicine.
- Must possess finger dexterity and arm/hand steadiness.
- Must be able to match or detect differences among colors including shades of color and brightness.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in a health science field. Masters degree preferred.

- Active ASCP Certification
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- May need to focus on small objects for extended periods of times.
- May stand for extended periods.
