Job Description
The position is responsible for programming of machines and systems being produced at Glassline Corporation. These may be glass(e.g. flat glass) processing machines, food(e.g. fresh produce) processing machines, or packaging machines, depending on the Glassline Corp. Division that requires the work. The team member should have a thorough understanding of PLC programming concepts, generally speaking. Depending on the skill set of the individual, responsibilities can vary. Glassline builds sophisticated PC based CNC machines, servo/motion controlled machines, and PLC controlled machines. Other divisions require generally only PLC programming. HMI programming is also typically required. Again, depending on the skillset, a machine or system will be given to the programmer as a job, working alone or with other programmers. It requires working with the Controls Design group, Mechanical Engineering, and Sales, to understand the requirements of the machine and/or system. Once the machine is programmed, it must be tested prior to shipping. The programmer should have troubleshooting abilities to be able to assist other technicians in diagnosing issues and correcting those issues, whether hardware or software. The programmer is then generally required to travel to the Customer site to assist with startup in the factory. Therefore the individual is expected to have a professional demeanor and good communication skills for Customer interaction. The position requires approx.. 20-30% travel, of typically short durations of 1 day to 1-2 weeks.
Essential Functions
PLC, HMI, and possible other types of programming for machine control according
Work with Controls Design to ensure hardware includes features required for optimum operation.
Assist Assembly Dept. with startup of machine on factory floor
Travel to customer plant site/s to assist Customer with install, and starting up machine. Test machine to Customer satisfaction. Report issues to staff for corrective action and/or future improvements.
Documentation – Backups and Electronic storage of all software, programs, other documents onto the Glassline Server. Develop Operation manuals for Customer
Phone support if required for older machines for which the employee had programmed.
Possible service, retrofits, reprogramming, of older machines to serve Customer orders.
Competencies
PLC programming experience – Allen Bradley/Rockwell is required. Other types also helpful. Safety PLC programming a plus.
Servo motion control programming experience is a plus.
Understanding of CNC G codes is a plus.
Understanding of machine control hardware, as well as pneumatics, is a plus.
Ability to travel 25-30%

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:30am-5pm, generally speaking. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
Travel is primarily within the USA, however international travel is sometimes required. Travel and meal expenses are paid, as well as other possible travel compensation.
Required Education and Experience
Technical Degree, preferred
At least two years of machine programming experience is preferred
Other Duties
Control schematic design may be required. Ensuring drawings are updated to as-builts. Storing of backups on the network properly. Enter work hours accurately into ERP system.
