About The Foundation for Independent Living, Inc. (FIL):
We are a private, not-for-profit, community-based program for adults with varying cognitive disabilities and developmental delays. What we’re looking for…
· The Resident Support Professional will be responsible for guiding their residents through all aspects of life while encouraging independence. The ideal fit will have a compassion for adults with cognitive disabilities and developmental delays, high energy with a positive attitude, and is unflappable in highly stressful situations.
Required Skills…
· Experience in care for adults with IDD
· Strong communication skills
· De-escalation and conflict resolution skills
· Must possess patience
· Must be able to remain calm in highly stressful situations
· Must be adaptable and flexible with an evolving work environment
· Strong basic technology skills
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
What you’ll do…
· Work directly with your team of residents of FIL and guide them through life and social skills
· Create a weekly schedule for your team of residents to ensure they are properly prepared for each week
· Assist with creating a healthy balanced menu and going grocery shopping
· Train how to properly keep apartment tidy and clean, including how to use cleaning supplies and appliances
· Train how to properly do laundry including washing, drying, folding and putting away
· Conduct apartment checks once or multiple times a week to continue training or ensure apartment is clean, tidy, all appliances are in proper working order and there are no unsafe conditions.
· Mentor and guide residents in social interactions encouraging healthy relationships
· Execute activities planned for the weekend
· Assist in activities planned for enrichment
· Assist with dining room set up/clean up and meal distribution
· Assist with transportation as needed
· Updates and maintains forms on a daily basis and communicates issues and successes to other RSPs and related personnel
Qualifications
· Required
o 3+ years schooling and/or experience with adults with IDD
o High school or equivalent
o Valid Driver’s License
o 3+ years schooling and/or experience with adults with IDD
o Must meet all background checks and MVR
· Preferred
o Special Education Degree (or related field)
o Behavioral Health: 1 year
o CPR/FA
