Clinical Screeners conduct specialized assessments of children who are placed in substitute care and their former guardians. The assessments include developing a DSM-5 diagnostic impression, estimating violence potential, as well as an assessment of parenting capacity. Clinical Screeners complete specialized reports that are used to inform treatment planning and develop permanency plans for children.

Clinical Screeners work from home, with some regional travel to conduct assessments within the region in which they reside.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts highly specialized trauma-focused assessments which are used to develop a diagnostic impression.
  • Conducts early childhood developmental screenings and other assessments of abused and neglected children
  • Conducts assessments of youth to inform recommendations for treatment including the appropriate level of care.
  • Conducts diagnostic substance abuse assessments and to determine the level of substance abuse intervention required.
  • Conducts parenting capacity evaluations and makes a determination of the types of parenting interventions that are necessary.
  • Conducts assessments of interpersonal violence and makes appropriate recommendations for interventions, as needed.
  • Integrates information from assessments, case file review, and other documentation and writes forensic reports, which include (a) the prognosis for a child being returned to their family in a timely fashion and (b) recommendations for services that should be provided to families.
  • Completes clinical documentation and shares with appropriate entities and supervisors.
  • Takes a leadership role in IDCFS clinical meetings (e.g., family meetings, report staffing, priority clinical staffing, CIPP meetings).

Minimum requirements include:

  • Current Illinois LCSW, LCPC, LMFT, Licensed Clinical Psychologist. Will consider LSW and LCP with relevant experience.
  • Must have Masters Degree from a related field (e.g., psychology, social work, counseling, etc).
  • Three years of relevant clinical experience.
  • A working knowledge of DSM-5 diagnostic criteria.
  • Knowledge of empirically supported clinical practices.
  • Knowledge of social, emotional and physical development across the lifespan.
  • Ability to make risk determinations for self-harm or violence.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check, which includes finger printing, state police check, FBI, and child abuse and neglect (CANTS) background check.
