Arrange daily activities based on urgency of ordered labs and stability for collected samples.
Review lab orders to confirm what labs have been ordered for collection date.
Verifies lab orders have been signed off on by provider’s, prior to collection.
Reassure patients and help them relax.
Draw blood using sterilized and approved equipment.
Ensure optimal quality and quantity of samples, per lab test, as required by the lab.
Records required patient data accurately on the requisition forms and electronic lab orders.
Completes all required documentation for samples to be processed at the lab (i.e., test requisition forms (paper and/or electronic), admission records/face sheets, patient consents, etc.).
Accurately labels patient specimen and efficiently packs the specimen for transport, shipping or courier service.
Maintains cleanliness and organization of collection area, self and supplies.
Notifies support team/management when additional supplies are needed.
Communicates with direct management regarding staffing/customer related concerns.
Maintains patient confidentiality in dealing with patient information following strict HIPAA guidelines.
Maintains professionalism while interacting with clinic staff, patients and physicians.
