Position: Molecular Technologist (Clinical Laboratory Scientist)

Location: Silver Spring, Maryland

Job Type: Full-Time (Contract)

JOB SUMMARY:

The Molecular Technologist coordinates and conducts all pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical aspects of complex molecular pathology testing in a typical Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory. The work consists of performing routine clinical testing, developing, verifying, validating, and testing molecular sequencing systems, and applying broad knowledge and hands-on experience in molecular biology, molecular pathology and biostatistics.. The position requires experience and demonstrates capability in standard molecular biological techniques, e.g., isolation of nucleic acids from various clinical specimens (blood, body fluids, and tissue), polymerase chain reaction (PCR), real-time PCR, in-situ hybridization, and essential NGS laboratory technics, e.g., library preparation and handling of sequencing machine. In addition, basic knowledge and skills for implementing a completely electronic format for collecting, reporting, and storing laboratory data using Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) are critical.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

• MB(ASCP) or SMB(ASCP) certification (DoD Requirement) would consider other certifications deemed comparable by OASDHA or their designee (CCLM) as an MLT or MT/MLS
• BS Degree in Biological Science (or related field required) / Masters Degree (Preferred)
• 1-2 Min experience in sequencing and mutation analysis in a molecular pathology service laboratory (REQUIRED)
• Knowledge and work experience with next generation sequencing techniques (Illumina) including basic bioinformatics knowledge (very desirable)
• Knowledge of basic computer programs
• Ability to follow detailed instructions
• Good Written and Verbal Communication, Organizational, Analytical Skills
• Perform all other duties within the molecular laboratory as assigned.
• Must be able to stand and sit for long periods
• Must be US Citizen and pass a favorable National Agency Check

Work Environment: Laboratory Environment.

Appearance: All personnel Laboratory Uniform if necessary along with attired in business casual clothing for daily work. Attire worn should always ensure employees safety from working conditions (long pants, appropriate shirts and close toe shoes as required): on occasion, staff may be required to wear a business dress for certain activities.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
