GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The Nurse Administrator's primary responsibility is the day to day management and long term planning of client's health care; collaboration with various physicians, multidisciplinary team members and the Program Administrator; and training and documentation of client's self administration program.

MONDAY-FRIDAY 32 HRS & ON-CALL

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administers medication and renders first aid and subsequent treatment as prescribed and qualified to perform. Is responsible for documentation of medication and first aid treatment provided.
  • Assess clients as required by IDT and as requested. This includes ongoing assessment, analysis, judgment and documentation related to all aspects of a client's health status. Reports changes and seeks medical attention as required or necessary.
  • Maintains accurate client medical files containing medical histories, doctor's orders, assessments, tests/reports/labs and all pertinent medical documentation. Routinely reviews files to ensure clients are receiving medical care as ordered.
  • Coordinates and schedules any necessary medical interventions or appointments including routine care visits, tests and procedures, urgent and/or non-routine office visits, follow-up visits, etc. Ensures all regulations related to routine appointments are followed.
  • Manages client's supply of medications. Ensures clients have adequate quantity of required medications to prevent missed doses. Verifies change out list is correct and up to date, notifies pharmacy of any errors or medication changes and monitors to ensure newly prescribed medications are received from the pharmacy. Ensures accurate count and documentation of controlled medications and substances and returns unused controlled drugs as required. Verifies that orders delivered by the pharmacy are as ordered by the physician.
  • Trains clients in self administration of medication. Documents training progress on competencies specified by clients in their plan. Notifies appropriate staff of any necessary changes related to an individual's medication training program.
  • Provides training or instruction to staff related to encouragement, support or modifications required due to medical circumstances. Equips staff with the training needed to ensure that they have the knowledge required to support the client's medical needs as permissible within their job scope. Furthermore, ensuring staff are familiar with any signs or symptoms that might need to be reported related to an individual's disability, medication or medical condition.
  • Ensures facility has adequate supply inventory. Conducts regular audits to verify that medical supplies are maintained as necessary and required. Order or informs the correct party of the need for supplies. Ensures all medications are stored properly and disposed of properly upon expiration.
  • Ensures that all nursing and medical supplies/equipment are ordered and maintained as needed/required. Regularly checks and disposes of expired medications and medical supplies.
  • Submits reports and documentation as required by ICF/IID Standards and company policies.
  • Assists in the development and revision of nursing and health related policies and procedures.
  • Works collaboratively with facility administrative staff to ensure effective, continuous communication exists.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
