Job Title: MENTAL HEALTH THERAPIST (Level I or II)

Department: Mental Health & Substance Use Department

Supervisor: Clinical Mental Health Manager

Location: Depending on the department’s needs, it can be at both sites: Washington, DC, and Hyattsville, MD. This is an on-site position.

Classification: Exempt/ Salaried



Synopsis: La Clinica del Pueblo (LCDP) seeks a licensed and bilingual (English/Spanish) clinician to join our growing Mental Health team in Washington, DC. and Prince George's County, Maryland. To provide assessment, counseling, and therapy services to a diverse population on-site and through Video-conferencing technology and/or assign to other partners’ sites. Provide feedback, attend meetings with the core team, and actively participate in program development, facilitation, and implementation of programs (Mi Familia, Volviendo a Vivir).

Qualifications: Required Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in social work, Counseling, or a related field from an accredited university.
  • Minimum 1 year of clinical work experience providing individual, family, and group therapy to the Latino population.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Three years of clinical experience providing individual, family, and group therapy to the Latino population. 
  • Knowledge of a variety of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral and Psychodynamic Interventions
  • Knowledge about IBH (Integrated Behavioral Health) services.
  • Experience as a field instructor

Required Skills/Abilities/Certifications/Licenses:

  • Fluent in Spanish and English
  • Good English writing skills
  • Excellent computer skills and experience
  • Licensed or eligible to be licensed in DC or MD as LGSW /LMSW/LGPC (already taken and passed the test to obtain initial licensure)

Preferred Skills/Abilities/Certifications/Licenses:

  • Licensed as an independently licensed clinician LICSW/LCSW-C/ LPC in DC or MD or be eligible to obtain a license as an independent clinician through endorsement.
  • Qualified supervisor in MD
  • Experienced supervising LMSW/LGSW/ LGPC providers who are working toward their independent licensure.

Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

1. Provide mental health counseling and therapy to adults, adolescents, children, and families (on-site) and video-conferencing technology.

2. Provide mental health counseling and therapy using different theoretical approaches (Cognitive-Behavioral, Solution-Focused, psychodynamic) according to clients’ needs.

3. Lead or co-lead either adolescent or child group in the Mi Familia program during the evening.

4. Provide mental health counseling in assigned locations.

5. Provide mental health assessments to clients referred by other programs through the Triage system and recommend appropriate treatment based on results.

6. Assist the client in accessing outside services when it is determined that s/he is not an appropriate referral for outpatient treatment at LCDP.

7. Communicate with medical providers and case managers to provide updates regarding client progress.

8. Provide crisis intervention services as needed. Ensure that measures are taken to protect the safety of clients and staff.

9. Develop treatment plans for each client based on their mental health diagnosis and psychosocial needs.

10. Implement identified screening and evaluation tools as required per program.

11. Follow departmental protocol for clinical documentation, as well as tracking of appointments in the EcW system.

12. Attend inter-disciplinary meetings as directed by Clinical Mental Health Manager and/or Department Director.

13. Attend community team meetings as needed.

14. Provide monthly data reports as requested by Department Director and Program Coordinator.

15. Participate in community activities as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities: For this role, independent licensed clinicians will be asked to provide clinical supervision to potential mental health interns.

  • Help in Recruiting, interviewing, and training mental health interns.
  • Oversees interns’ practice.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations as requested by schools.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.  
  • See details of objects that are less than a few feet away and more than a few feet away. 
  • Use fingers to grasp, move, or assemble small objects. 
  • Focus on one source of sound and ignore others.
