Job Description

Position summary: Respond to medical emergencies and deliver patient care, support, and evaluation in a pre-hospital setting, like on scene and during transport to the hospital. This includes assessing the patient, determining the proper emergency care, and administering treatment. Assist with transporting patients safely between hospitals and care facilities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide first-aid treatment, such as bandaging wounds.
  • Provide life support care, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), when needed
  • Assess a patient’s conditions and provide initial treatment
  • Determine whether a patient needs to go to an ER or a trauma center
  • Work 12-hour shifts, sometimes staying on call for 24 hours
  • Communicate with other emergency services, such as firefighters and police officers, to respond to calls for help·
  • Provide patients with emergency care by utilizing appropriate techniques and equipment
  • Examine and evaluate patients to determine necessary care
  • Gather information from and communicate with patients effectively, taking into account environmental, social, and cultural factors
  • Document patient information, condition, and treatment
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and perform all care with respect for patient rights·
  • Transport patients in accordance with outlined policies and procedures
  • Comply with FCC regulations regarding radio communications and practice approved radio etiquette in accordance with SOPs
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and well-stocked environment for patients
  • Operate and drive ambulance in conjunction with applicable safety policies and laws·
  • Provide basic life support and gather patient data
  • Understand and comply with HIPPA laws and regulations
  • Attend crew meetings and training events
  • Assessing patients' conditions and responsiveness to interventions
  • Assessing nature and extent of emergency situations, and need for additional assistance
  • Mitigating incidents by helping to control crowds, protecting valuables, and performing other duties
  • Assisting another emergency medical personnel with administering Advanced Life Support
  • Organizing reception of patients at medical treatment facilities
  • Liaising with healthcare facilities regarding patients' vital statistics
  • Maintaining vehicles, stations, and communication and medical equipment
  • Completing patient care reports and other documentation
  • Complying with applicable policies and procedures and medical protocols
  • Abide by the District’s SOPs
  • Maintain all required licenses and certifications and remain in good standing with any licensing boards or organizations
  • Perform any other duties as they may be assigned from time to time

The District is governed by an elected, five member Board of Directors. NPHD is a Special District largely supported by Taxable Real Property within the County and revenue generated through Emergency Medical Services (EMS). NPHD is proud to employ one, full-time Paramedic, one, part-time Paramedic and three, full-time EMTs. The District also has an EMS, Volunteer Staff of thirteen, certified EMTs and Ambulance Drivers. The entire EMS Crew operates under the direction and expertise of Medical Director, Dr. Lynnette Telck. The Ambulance provides EMS to residents and visitors within 1628 square miles. The rugged geography of Jackson County creates a unique tourist experience as well as a challenge to our EMS providers who serve these people and the citizens of Jackson County.
