Job Summary

Phil’s BBQ Bartenders provide legendary customer service while preparing the highest quality beverages and serving our award-winning mesquite grilled BBQ.  Our Bartenders are ambassadors of the Phil’s BBQ brand and display superior knowledge of our craft beer inventory, wine selection, signature cocktails and dine-in food menu.  Bartenders are responsible for verifying legal age requirements for consumption of alcohol, fulfilling food and beverage orders, payment processing, taking inventory of stock and replenishing supplies, and maintaining the cleanliness of the bar areas, among other duties.

 

Activities & Responsibilities

 

Primary

o   Promote, work, and act in a manner consistent with the core values and mission of Phil’s BBQ (“PHILS”).

o   Perform all job duties according to “Phil’s Way”.

o   Professional, well-groomed appearance with outgoing and friendly personality.

o   Prepare and serve beer, wine, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages consistent with standard drink recipes.

o   Accept guest payment, process credit card charges, and make change if necessary.

o   Check identification of guests to verify age requirements for purchase of alcohol.

o   Clean and sterilize glasses, utensils, and bar equipment.

o   Balance cash receipts and count tips at closing.

o   Record drink orders accurately and promptly after having received them into the register system.

o   Monitor and minimize problems and liability related to guests’ excessive drinking or intoxication by checking identification to verify legal age requirements for all customers, immediately engaging each guest upon arrival, assessing guest actions and physical condition, suggesting food and water, slowing service of alcoholic beverages, refusing to serve additional alcoholic beverages as necessary, or ordering transportation for intoxicated guests.

o   Stock bar with beer, wine, liquor, and related supplies such as ice, glassware, napkins, straws or drink garnishes.

o   Present drink menus, make recommendations, and answer questions regarding beverages.

o   Take food and beverage orders from guests seated at the bar, in bar area or bar patio area.

o   Clean bars, work areas, and tables, and reset tables in bar area as customers depart.

o   Mix ingredients, such as liquor, soda, water, sugar, and bitters, to prepare cocktails and other drinks.

o   Assist guests with carrying food to their table; serve food items to guests seated at the bar top areas.

o   Slice and pit fruit; prepare other garnishes for drinks at opening and as needed.

o   Enlist manager assistance for guests who become loud, obnoxious, threatening, or physical with others.

o   Arrange and maintain bottles and glasses in an attractive and functional manner to support efficient drink preparation, promotion of beverages, and attractive displays.

o   Maintain cleanliness in all areas of the bar including counters, sinks, utensils, shelves and storage areas.

o   Recognize and learn the names of our regular guests and smile at our patrons.

o   Fill-in for fellow employees as needed to ensure proper guest service standards and efficient operations.

o   Coordinate with and assist coworkers to meet guests’ needs and support the operation of the restaurant.

o   Assist the restocking and replenishment of bar inventory and supplies.

o   Report all equipment problems and bar maintenance issues to the restaurant manager.

o   Attend all scheduled mandatory employee meetings and offers suggestions for improvement.

o   Participate in friendly, cordial and informative conversation with our guests.

o   Order or requisition liquors, beer and supplies.

o   Observe the work of bar staff and other bartenders as needed.

o   Provide guests with helpful information about local attractions.

 

Tools & Technology

o   Point of sale terminal and workstation (MICROS)

o   EMV Credit card processing

o   Carbonated beverage dispenser (draft foam control devices, electronic beer line maintenance equipment, refrigerated liquid recirculation equipment, soda dispensers)

o   Cocktail shakers or accessories (3-piece and 4-piece cocktail shakers, pour spouts, spirit measures)

o   Commercial use of blenders, graters, cutlery, dishwashers, juicers, mixers or strainers

o   Ice machine

o   Paging Device System

o   Non-carbonated beverage dispenser

o   Point-of-sale receipt printers if requested by fan

o   Touch screen monitors

o   iPad Tablets (HotSchedules® and iSolved® Employee Self Service)

 

Minimum Qualifications

o   Be 21 years of age or older.

o   The ability to speak, see, hear, read and write in English (bilingual Spanish a plus).

o   Ability to hear and see with 100% accuracy with or without correction.

o   High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

o   Possess and obtain CA Food Handler Card and RABS Certification.

o   Authorized to work in the U.S.A. (we E-Verify).

o   Knowledge of food and beverage service involving 1 – 2 years front of house and bar experience (prior food and beverage management experience a plus).

o   Possess excellent basic mathematical skills.

o   Ability to accurately handle money and operate a point-of-sale system.

o   Able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours)

o   Able to safely lift plates of food, bus tubs, kegs, cases and containers weighing up to 30 pounds.

o   Able to frequently bend, reach, stoop, crouch, kneel, lift, push, grasp, pull and grip objects.

o   Ability to occasionally climb a ladder.

o   Ability to work with touch screen computer/tablet ordering systems, pagers and headsets.

o   Possess strong, suitable and friendly communication skills to create positive guest experience with our patrons.

o   Stamina and ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment with accuracy and composure.
