Summary of Position: The Family Intervention Specialist (FIS) provides Intensive In-Home services for youth and families.

Counties currently served: Hempstead, Miller, Lafayette, Union, Ouachita, Little River, Nevada, Columbia, and Sevier Counties.

Qualifications/Requirements:  Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or related field as determined DHS or bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field. At least on year experience working with at risk youth and families.

  • Team player that supports corporate decisions and Youth Advocate Programs’ vision and mission.
  • Understanding of child and adolescent development and family systems
  • Understanding of family-driven practice, child welfare, the state system, and behavioral health care delivery systems
  • Able to work flexible schedule including after hours
  • Ability to travel
  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities
  • Independent discretion/decision making within the scope and responsibility of the position
  • Manages stress, emotions, and can make decisions under pressure
  • Works independently effectively
  • Ability to work with a diverse population

FIS Essential Functions

  • Enroll in Wheels of Change at time of hire completing the first 4 units within 7 business days of hire. The first 4 units must be completed prior to serving clients. All phases of training must be completed within 30 days of hire.
  • Complete all requirements to be certified in the FCT model within 365 days of start date.
  • Participate in weekly team supervision
  • Utilize the FCT model to provide Intensive In-Home services in all DCFS prevention and DYS cases assigned and adhering to and ensuring fidelity to the model.
  • Conducts family and individual sessions as needed in clients’ own homes and other settings when convenient for the family, spending a required minimum average of 4 hours per week and 3 weekly contacts with clients.
  • Provides services unique to each family that promotes the achievement of safety, permanency, and well-being for the children, including evidence-based and trauma-informed in-home services.
  • Conducts initial and on-going assessments that are strengths based and individualized to be incorporated in service plans.
  • Implement interventions to ensure any gaps related to the family’s basic needs are filled while helping the family also plan for long term sustainability.
  • Provide youth and families with necessary transportation and help them plan for long term transportation needs.
  • Assist family with access to psychiatric services and medication management.
  • Assist families develop a support network in the natural environment.
  • Deliver interventions designed to develop skills in both parents and children to problem solve.
  • Promote success with youth in school while helping teach parents to advocate for their children’s educational needs.
  • Attend child/youth case related meetings.
  • Attend court, prepare youth and families for court, and communicate with the case manager and court staff, when necessary, in consultation with the family, DCFS, and/or DYS.

Position requires reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and auto insurance coverage with minimum bodily injury liability coverage of $100,000 per person and $300,000 per accident.
