Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Arrives to work on time, neat and well-groomed for every shift, in a clean and proper uniform.
  • Demonstrates helpful, positive attitude at all times to guests, teammates and managers.
  • Adheres to all of SHELLS’ safety, sanitation, and administrative procedures.


Before Shift:

  • Stocks crayons and coloring papers for kids.
  • Stocks pens, wait lists, etc.
  • Updates specials board, cleans menus


During Shift:

  • Executes host duties according to the points of SHELLS’s Points of Service
  • Opens door & greets Guests entering the restaurant with a friendly “Big Hello”.
  • Gauges an accurate waiting period when restaurant becomes full, relays wait time to Guests, walking in, takes names on a list and informs Guests periodically of their standing.
  • Informs Manager when waiting time exceeds wait time quoted to Guests.
  • Makes Guests comfortable in waiting area, serving a beverage if necessary.
  • Informs Guests, when seated, who their Server will be.
  • Assists Servers with miscellaneous requests such as picking up plates from tables or running condiments to a table.
  • Answers the phone to provide callers with directions to the restaurant, assists with taking Call-In orders, etc.
  • Assists with walk in To-Go orders.
  • Is responsible for table rotation.
  • Brings appropriate # of rolled silverware to the table when seating a party.
  • Makes conversation with Guests on the way to the table or while seating, explaining menu items and answering questions.
  • Handles Guests’ complaints using Recovery Steps & contacts the Manager.
  • Organizes the front waiting area when time permits- straightening menus.
  • Collects stray menus from around the restaurant on a regular basis.
  • Cleans windows and window sills in the front waiting area and high chairs and booster chairs in designated areas.
  • Picks up discarded cups, glasses and dishes in front area as well as all around the restaurant.
  • Thanks Guests as they are leaving to ensure and promote return visits.
  • Checks bathrooms periodically for cleanliness, orderliness and stock items.
  • Wipes menus, writes specials on board, stocks kids menus & crayons, and lists Servers on station Floor plan.


Closing:

  • Alerts Managers of reductions in Guest flow in order to appropriately phase out staff.
  • Sweeps floor in front entrance area.
  • Checks out with Manager at end of shift; performs additional duties as assigned.
  • Cleans windows and menus.


Minimum Requirements:

  • High School or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Previous Hostess experience a plus.
  • Previous experience in retail, hospitality or customer service industry preferred.


Physical Requirements of this position include:

Standing and walking for long periods of time, as well as answering the telephone.  The position requires dexterity, written, and constant oral communication skills.  Some bending and lifting (up to 20 pounds) is also needed.
