What we do: 

Enterprise Architecture (EA) consolidates accountability for technology choices and solution design across the Technology Group (TG) and the full portfolio, ensuring consistent leadership in the solution design process. EA:

  • Elevates the discussion and strategic value of technology within each business area and simplifies access to enterprise level architects
  • Sets enterprise architecture policies and standards to facilitate uniform, practical, and efficient product development
  • Actively engages and collaborates with System IT architects and FRS stakeholders

The outcome is that FRBNY's overall architecture blueprint and roadmap are developed and clearly communicated to Business, Technology Leaders and COO, resulting in uniform, practical, and efficient product development in FRBNY as a result of EA policies and guidelines.

Your role as Business Architect:

As a member of the Business Architecture department within EA, you will be responsible for directly supporting and enabling its mission, which is develop and maintain a deep understanding of the core business processes of the Bank and to apply that understanding in the service of strong business-technology alignment, well-informed, transparent decision-making and strategic planning, and robust, efficient product delivery, commensurate with the overall mission and vision of the FRBNY.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Overall responsibility for all business architecture activities for a business area of the Bank
  • Establish & maintain senior level relationship, sponsorship and support in the business area
  • Learn and understand key processes, stakeholders and outcomes of the business area, as well as strategic drivers, Federal Reserve System and regulatory context, relevant industry developments, business dependencies and connections to other areas of the Bank, etc.
  • Engage business SMEs at the working level to build and maintain a formal business capability model, mappings to Bank goals and objectives, enabling applications, etc. using the Bank's standard EA modeling tool; conduct periodic maturity assessment exercises for business capabilities
  • Maintain a current "business architecture on a page" view for target business area
  • Work with the business to understand current and emerging business priorities, frame them in terms of business capabilities and help contextualize proposed initiatives in broader Bank terms, aligning to Bank objectives
  • Work with the Strategy, Planning & Innovation (SP&I) function to help frame proposed initiatives for Technology Group Investment Council; conduct impact analysis of business initiatives in terms of required and dependent capabilities
  • Help facilitate a clear understanding of approved business initiatives for all of EA and other TG partners
  • Support Solution Architects and EPC Division leads in creation of initial solution architectures for proposed efforts
  • Maintain an ongoing understanding of the Bank's technology capabilities and their maturity and advise on effectiveness of proposed solutions
  • Understand effectiveness of delivered solutions and enable a feedback loop to drive continuous improvement in architecture practices
  • Use understanding of the business to enable a cross-sectional view of business capabilities across the Bank to promote and facilitate the use of common platforms, shared services and service architecture
  • Educate business line partners in the purpose and intended use of business capabilities, maturity assessments, and the discipline of business architecture overall
  • Assist business line stakeholders in understanding broader technology trends at the Bank and their implications on the business line

You will be an individual contributor residing in EA, reporting to the Department Head of Business Architecture. You will be an experienced and independent Business Architect professional with demonstrated expertise, business involvement, and ability to work in a matrix operating model and federated environment.



Qualifications

What we are looking for:

  • 5 years of experience working in a financial markets environment, with a preference towards experience in banking, securities processing and/or regulatory areas
  • 3-4 years of architecture design and implementation experience in another architecture discipline (solution, data or technology architecture)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; highly collaborative working style, strong interpersonal capabilities and relationship building; proven ability to manage diverse client and stakeholder relationships, and to collaborate effectively with customers and colleagues.
  • Strong familiarity with architecture industry frameworks such as TOGAF, SAFe, ArchiMate
  • Proven experience in defining business architecture and business processes on highly complex  projects or serving as a liaison between business and technology
  • Strong abstract thinking skills, comfortable with high level concepts of application, data and technology architectures, ability to quickly switch between conceptual, logical, and physical views of the world
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate effectively at different levels of the organization, strong ability to evangelize best practices within and among teams
  • Proven experience with formal architectural modeling, experience with MEGA HOPEX or a similar tool strongly desired
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, proactively set own goals and drive execution

  • Satisfy the Federal Reserve System's Conflict of Interest requirements.
  • Possess or can obtain a U.S. Government Security Clearance, which includes U.S. Citizenship.
