Job Description
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Assembly Maintenance Weld Technician will provide technical welding support within the Assembly Maintenance Department in a team environment to support production and carry out the assignments and responsibilities given to them by the Assembly Department Maintenance Manager, Supervisors and Team Leaders. They will work very closely with the Weld Engineers to support the various welding activities at Kamtek.
RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY:
Responsible for supporting safety, quality, and productivity while adhering to KAMTEK’s plant standards and upholding the Magna Employee’s Charter.
Also, maintain, troubleshoot, and provide continuous improvement suggestions resulting in minimal downtime of manufacturing equipment in the assembly area. Support installation and modification of equipment to ensure quality control requirements are met and process enhancements are realized.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITIONS:
1) Follow and enforce all plant safety rules and policies
2) Follow and comply with all operational procedures/policies as stated in the employee Environmental Health and Safety programs (Magna and OSHA Standards)
3) Understand and promote Magna’s philosophies (Magna Operational Principles, Corporate Constitution and Employee’s Charter)
4) Follow and comply with all plant safety standards including LOTO
5) Set up weld equipment/machinery by installing/testing weld tips, fixtures, tooling and other parts as required
6) Performs general/preventative maintenance on equipment to ensure acceptable weld quality standards and start-up requirements
7) Cleans and changes weld tips/weld set-ups
8) Responsible for programming of welding programs/stepper programs
9) Responsible to document necessary changes made to weld schedules
10) Perform Weld Failure Investigations and trouble-shoot and/or make necessary adjustments to attain acceptable welds. Complete the process by follow-up with UT/Destruct group
11) Reviews weld tips to ensure proper tip dress and cap face size
12) Basic robotics operation
13) Basic electrical circuit troubleshooting
14) Responsible for keeping adequate quantities of all resistance welding supplies stocked on the lines
15) Maintain safety standards of equipment and work area and perform all duties in a safe manner in accordance with the safety policies of Kamtek
16) Provides technical support for a specific welding system during the introduction of new models
17) Ensures proper entries are made into the Maintenance CMS for line calls/preventative maintenance checks
18) Proactively supports/initiates corrective measures to weld control issues
19) Ensure new parts get ordered when necessary (e.g. new tips, tip holders, cables and water tubes)
20) Return unused parts back to the tool crib to keep the correct stock levels once troubleshooting is complete. Fill out repair tags for repairable parts
21) Attend training classes locally/abroad and successfully pass any examinations
22) Then, bring that knowledge back to Kamtek and share it with co-workers
23) Attend meetings when needed/requested
24) Practices good housekeeping (5S) on the shop floor and in assembly cells
25) Work in conjunction with other crafts in a team environment
26) Able to work unsupervised obtaining positive results
27) Must be able to work extended hours as needed to meet customer requirements
28) Perform other duties as required
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
SKILL (Ability to do the job)
• Must have general knowledge on electrical theory and troubleshooting
• Ability to read and understand electrical schematics
• Ability to use electrical testing and troubleshooting equipment
• Must have general mechanical knowledge
• Must have an eye for attention to detail
• Ability to identify solutions to problems using data, visual inspections, and maintenance best practices
• Must be able to effectively use verbal and written communications.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
• Must have basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
