POSITION SUMMARY:

Mechanical Engineer to contribute to the development of industrial inkjet printing systems. This position requires a combination of technical depth, design experience, a willingness to be hands on, and a collaborative spirit. The engineer will be involved at all stages of the development process from initial scoping and requirements generation, to engineering analysis and design execution, through validation and field support.

JOB COMPLEXITY

Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise.

SUPERVISION

Determines methods and procedures on new assignments and may coordinate activities of other personnel (Team Lead).

EXPERIENCE

Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years experience; or equivalent experience.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Scoping project proposals. This includes estimating effort, cost, and technical risk.
  • Thermofluid analysis of inkjet system components including ink delivery systems, electronics enclosures, and electronics cooling.
  • Structural analysis of machine components such as gantries and mounts
  • Evaluation of, and contribution to, product requirements.
  • Concept generation and proposals
  • Feasibility testing
  • Design of industrial inkjet systems including high tolerance machined components, sheet metal, fluid systems, and industrial motion.
  • Tolerance stack up analysis
  • Conducting Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis on new designs
  • Value engineering to reduce the cost of existing designs
  • Work cross-functionally with marketing, operations, field support and external partners to produce designs that achieve a thoughtful balance between function, quality, and cost.
  • Prepare and release product documentation including part drawings, assembly prints, product manuals, process documentation, etc.
  • Collaborate with the production and test teams to produce and enhance designs.
  • Drive verification and validation through the creation of test plans, working with technicians, performing tests, analyzing data, and meeting project goals by developing creative solutions to problems.
  • Interfacing with stakeholders to ensure that the product meets the intended customer's requirements.
  • Work with the field support team to achieve successful installation of equipment and troubleshoot customer issues. This may include some travel.
  • Leverage research from industry and academic best practices to create new development processes that extend the engineering capabilities of the team

REQUIRED:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years experience; or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills utilizing science and engineering education to arrive at practical solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work individually as well as interact with vendors, customers, and other engineers and ability top work across several functional departments
  • High creativity
  • Product design experience using a commercial CAD software.
  • Knowledge of proper drafting techniques per ANSI/ASME Y14.5M.
  • Ability to participate, lead, mentor in a team environment

DESIRED:

  • Advanced Engineering degree
  • Familiarity with commercial CFD and/or FEA analysis software
  • Statistics
  • Knowledge of printing, print systems
