About this job

Description:

• Define the best design solutions for Engine Hardware for all OEM engines on a global basis

• Continuously improve the engine architecture designs to meet changing requirements (e.g. emissions, diagnostics, and fuel economy); minimize cost and improve quality

• Drive the design activities for the combustion system in collaboration with the Combustion System Design & Analysis Engineer, Base Engine Architect, Combustion Technical Specialist, Product Line Combustion Engineer, and Engine System Analyst

• Run steady state CFD port flow analysis for combustion system designs (would consider providing training)

• Work closely with analysis groups and incorporate design changes

• Conduct component design feasibility studies for all base engine hardware. Develop alternative component designs for all base engine hardware to be used in down-selection

• Develop, refine, and complete drawings for individual components and assemblies

• Apply manufacturability, Design for Assembly, and integration knowledge to parts, subsystem designs and Diesel Engine integration

• Facilitate and participate in Design / Virtual Reviews, both scheduled and informal as required

• Document and maintains material, mass, and other part specifications within the Math file

• Support CAE studies to improve designs

• Complete, analyzes and applies NX Analysis results to solution set for their subsystem / components (would consider another SW knowledge)

• Lead/Design to integrate component subsystem designs into systems

• Perform appropriate studies/alternatives / layouts and participate in recommendations to program direction

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Design experience with multiple Engine Hardware production subsystems and components (e.g. blocks, heads, crank train, valvetrain, air delivery, exhaust/aftertreatment, cooling, lubrication, sealing and fastening, etc.)

• Design experience in all base engine components, vehicle integration/packaging

• Experience with engine combustion systems

• Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of engine mechanical/electrical and control systems

• Understanding of engine regulations

• Understanding of state-of-the-art Engine technology and major supplier technology offerings

• Understanding of engine macro-trends impacting engine design directions for mechanical engines and partially electrified engine systems

• Understanding of characteristics and design attributes of competitors Diesel Engines

• Ability to assist in Advanced Engineering projects, Diesel Engine Programs and Balance Architecture issue resolution

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• All Required Qualifications listed above

• Understanding of Balance Architecture Process and Timing and Global Powertrain Development Process

• DFSS Black Belt Certification

• Ability to travel domestically and internationally

• High level of oral and written communication skills, in order to work effectively with cross-functional partners to meet mutual goals.

• High level of analytical problem-solving ability, including independent judgment and decision-making skills.

• Ability to prioritize work with only limited direction from management.

• Ability to lead discussions, action plans and solutions to drive issues to closure at the organizational level.
