Job Description
Job Summary
· Assists physicians, nurses, and other medical staff by performing administrative and clinical duties.
General Accountabilities
· General Medical Office Administrative Tasks, Phone Calls and Communication with Referring Provider Offices. Cross train with reception staff.
· Collaborates with members of the health care team in coordinating and implementing plans for patient care.
· Record reason for visit and related patient information for practitioner review
· Call patients day prior to visit to complete history in advance of visit
· Performs vital signs, height, weight, and screening procedures. Documents findings in the medical record
· Respond to patient phone calls and direct patient to appropriate clinical or clerical staff.
Laboratory:
· Collects and assists providers in collection of specimens, as required, using appropriate protocols such as infection control.
· Completes requisitions, labels and routes specimens according to standard procedure
· Performs and documents daily controls and calibration of laboratory equipment when needed. Informs RN or MD of when inaccurate controls are noted
Procedures:
· Assists physicians and nurses with special procedures and examinations including, but not limited to pelvic exam, etc. following appropriate protocols such as consent, infection control, universal protocol, and patient identification.
· Secures supplies, ensures patient is properly undressed and draped, provides instruments to physicians, holds patient, as required and assists patient after procedure/examination
Supplies and office preparation:
· Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of examination rooms; stocks assigned rooms and cupboards and insures par levels of supplies are maintained.
· Checks and completes required logs and equipment including refrigerator logs, eyewash logs, sample medications, AED, suction and other required checks
· Participate in pre-visit chart preparation by ensuring required lab results and documentation are available in the medical record for practitioner review.
· Performs variety of other clerical functions such as filing of paper medical records, processing insurance forms, preparing financial records, photocopying, answering phones, and assuring efficient flow of patients through the suite
Job Qualifications
· High School Diploma or GED required
· Graduate of a certified medical assistant program or previous military training/experience that satisfies Illinois standards required
· Medical Assistant Certification (MA-C) or Interim MA-C through State of Illinois DOH required(the latter must obtain regular MA-C within 6-months of hire)
· CPR certification required
· Excellent customer service and communication skills required
· Experience with EMR applications.
