RISK & SAFETY SPECIALIST

Reports to: Chief People Officer

Key Relationships: Chief People Officer, Director of Operations & Training, Sr. Director of Purchasing, Facilities Department, People Services Manager

Job Summary: The Risk & Safety Specialist will oversee our Workers’ Compensation and Safety Program. Additionally, they will implement and continuously improve on safety, risk management, and compliance strategies for new and existing Tender Greens locations.

At Tender Greens we value partnership, inspire passion, incubate good ideas and celebrate innovation. As the Risk & Safety Specialist , you are responsible for exemplifying the company culture as well as;
● Promoting and updating all company safety programs to include but not limited to, workplace safety, emergency preparedness, crisis plan, Guest safety and food safety
● Leading the Tender Greens Safety Program which includes monthly audits and continuous communication with each locations’ managers and injured employees.
● Anticipating, identifying and evaluating hazardous conditions and practices within the restaurants
● Partnering with brokers, loss control consultants, OSHA consultants, ADA consultants and various other vendors to ensure compliance at all levels of the business
● Strategizing with Operations on how to make Safety Culture realistic and relevant for the field
● Maintaining standards and procedures for all matters relating to Workers’ Compensation and oversight of Workers Compensation, General Liability, and Property Claims
● Conducting post-accident interviews with management and injured Team Members to determine root causes of accidents
● Acting as the main point of contact on a day-to-day basis as it relates to strategy for cases and ensuring that all claims are aggressively managed by the clinics and insurance adjusters/carrier to mitigate cost all while ensuring the best care for Team Members and Guests
● Establishing and maintaining a caring, compassionate and professional working relationships with the injured Team Member to support their recovery to an early and successful Return to Work.
● Ensuring that all injured Team Members receive all appropriate company communications regarding their status and claim updates
● Ensuring the ongoing education and success of the Tender Greens Return to Work program
● Maintaining accurate records of claim transactions in order to evaluate claim handling and reserves on a regular basis
● Promoting safety initiatives and safe work practices in an effort to achieve a culture of safety
● Conducting on-site restaurant safety inspections and audits with a critical eye toward OSHA compliance and hazard identification
● Participating in Operations meetings periodically to share up-to-date information, corrective actions needed for improvements, trend reporting, results, and reinforce safety philosophy and culture
● Reviewing, compiling, analyzing and interpreting data from accident and loss event reports and other sources regarding injuries, illnesses and property damage to identify injury causes and trends
● Developing Job Analysis and Ergonomic Evaluations as needed
● Collaborate with People Services and/or Legal Team on any RTW or Team Member issues to ensure full compliance
● Gathering appropriate data and documents for multi-line policy insurance renewal
● Maintaining an up to date vendor database with appropriate vendor contacts, contracts, certificates of insurance, and other required documents
● Coordinating with Payroll Department to fulfill all requested wage statements from adjusters/carriers
● Attend quarterly claim reviews and also be involved in any settlement discussions
● Attending depositions, court appearances, mediations, file reviews and trials
● Work with multiple departments to ensure company compliance (including but not limited to: CCPA Compliance, Website Compliance, ADA Compliance, etc.)
● Assisting with special projects as assigned

● Bilingual - Spanish a requirement
● Tenacious and continuous follow up with all parties involved: claims adjuster, defense attorneys, team members, Management, etc.
● Extremely proficient in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel
● 3+ years workers compensation experience, preferably in a multi-state, multi-facility environment
● 2+ years safety & OSHA experience
● Demonstrated knowledge of workers' compensation and general liability claims management, related laws, and medical and legal terminology
● Strong knowledge of insurance and workers' compensation claims
● Ability to assess workers' compensation claims and conduct root cause analysis
● Analyze trends and suggest cost containment strategies
● Strong knowledge of workers' compensation related laws, including ADA, FMLA and OSHA
● Participate and seek out continuous learning opportunities
● Ability to work successfully with a variety of people without making judgments
● Ability to find a solution for or to deal proactively with work-related problems
● Have strong, positive interpersonal skills as well as excellent communication skills
● Must be able to work as part of a team in a busy office

Abilities include:
● Lifting/carrying files and papers up to 20 pounds
● Some bending/kneeling required
● Stationary, seated position
● Some driving required
● Ability to travel in and out of California
● Must have a valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle within which to commute

Hours: Will vary, must be able to work evenings and weekends. Average 50 hour/week.
