The Space Launch System (SLS) program is in search of an Associate Electrical / Electronic System Design Engineer to support development of Flight Systems avionics components in Huntsville, AL. As a member of the Flight Systems team the engineer will work to develop avionics systems that manage and control the flight of the core and upper stages of the NASA Artemis missions.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Work with customers, suppliers, and other Boeing teams to develop and document complex electronic and electrical system requirements.

  • Analyze and translate system requirements into sub-system, hardware and software designs and interface specifications.

  • Test and validate end items to ensure system/subsystem designs meet operational, functional, and support requirements. 

  • Monitor supplier performance to ensure system integration and compliance with requirements.

  • Support management on risk and opportunity identification as well as mitigation and capture plan development.

  • Brief program leaders and managers on status of key technical issues, root cause and corrective action, and progress to plan on resolution.

  • Solve problems concerning component installation and provides other support of fielded hardware and software over the entire product lifecycle of the program.

  • Researches specific technology advances for potential application to company SLS program needs.

Work Authorization:

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility. Access to the facility requires a background investigation by U.S. Government authorities.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience):

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • 2+ years of experience in an engineering discipline (or Master's / PhD)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering

  • Electrical or electronic engineering experience

  • Experience with specification development

  • Experience working with suppliers

Typical Education / Experience:

Typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
