JOB SUMMARY:
Performs a variety of scientific procedures to support the lab of Dr. Lela Lackey. Primary responsibilities will be performing molecular biology techniques and mammalian cell culture and recording and analyzing the results of experiments. Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES:
35% - Essential - Molecular biology experiments: Perform standard molecular biology experiments including PCR reactions, plasmid based cloning, electrophoresis and western blotting. Prepare and run next-generation sequencing libraries on in-house Mi-Seq.
25% - Essential - Specimen development, maintenance, and harvesting: Split and maintain mammalian cells in cell culture with proper aseptic technique. Standard cell culture procedures including cell counting, transfection and harvesting cells for downstream experiments.
20% - Essential - RNA structure probing: Perform RNA structure probing experiments both in the test tube and within cells requiring careful work with sensitive RNA molecules that are easily degraded.
10% - Essential - Laboratory maintenance: Inventory supplies, report needed supplies and upack supplies. Clean lab space and lab equipment.
10% - Essential - Reporting, Communicating, and Collaborating: Communicate and collaborate with scientific team in the Lackey lab and the Center for Human Genetics.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education - Bachelor's Degree in Science and Work Exp 1+ years in research
