Description

SAIC is seeking anengineer with technical expertise inspacecraft mechanical engineering. This position is located in Chantilly,VA.

In this role, youwill be an integral participant in spacecraft mechanical requirementsdevelopment, design analysis, and verification. Key areas of focus includestructural analysis, structural dynamics, spacecraft test, spacecraftdeployments, moving mechanical assemblies, and spacecraft transportation.

Job dutiesinclude:

  • Supportthe customer in the oversight of the mechanical design, integration and test ofspacecraft bus
  • Provideexpert advice/analysis on accommodation considerations for newsatellite/payload developments
  • Reviewand coordinate on all changes to specifications, lCDs and system levelrequirements documentation including the mechanical accommodation of payloadsonto the satellite bus
  • Reviewspacecraft mechanical manufacturing specifications for accuracy and ensurerequirement allocation documentation is complete and accurate
  • Reviewdrawings, documents and procedures for design, manufacturing and integration,and provide comments to the contractor and/or government
  • Trackdevelopment issues, significant accomplishments and upcoming events and provideweekly status updates to the customer
  • Attendmechanical system level design reviews, and program management reviews toassess design maturity, requirements compliance and to provide informedtechnical recommendations to the USG
  • ldentifyand assess emerging risks; develop and evaluate proposed burn-down plans
  • Reviewprime contractor readiness to proceed into spacecraft manufacturing and test
  • Supportfactory integration and test activities, as required
  • Providesupport to launch and satellite on-orbit test
  • Attendbranch meetings as appropriate at the request of the customer to coordinatesupport activities Provide technical evaluation of accommodation efforts incontractor Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs)
  • Attendcontractor milestone reviews (e.g. PDR, CDR, pre-test, pre- ship and othermeetings) to provide technically based recommendations regarding satisfactionof review entrance and exit criteria
  • Developproductive relationships with prime contractor counterparts, functionalcounterparts, and other spacecraft subsystem subject matter experts
  • Adviseand mentor USG spacecraft mechanical subsystem lead and other VehicleEngineering Branch personnel regarding mechanical subsystem design elements 

Qualifications

TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors and nine (9) years or more experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more experience ; PhD or JD and four (4) years or more experience.
  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph
  • Experience inthe design & integration of satellite buses 

  • Knowledgeable of launch& flight operations of space vehicles
