ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY: The University of South Florida (USF) Institute for Applied Engineering (IAE) is a Florida not-for-profit corporation and USF Direct Support Organization organized to support and benefit the University of South Florida including without limitation the USF College of Engineering. POSITION SUMMARY: The Senior Software Engineer/Architect provides direct contract support to the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) through the USF IAE. The duty location is Tampa, Florida.The USSOCOM Special Operations Forces (SOF) Acquisition Technology and Logistics (AT&L) Program Manager Mission Support Systems (PM MSS) is requires a highly motivated candidate to fill a unique role as the Senior Software Engineer/Architect. The Senior Software Engineer/Architect will report directly to the USSOCOM Program Manager and will advise on all technical aspects for a portfolio of SOCOM software programs providing command and control, geospatial and military intelligence capabilities. The Senior Software Engineer/Architect will manage the technical collaborative efforts internal to the Program Manager Mission Support Systems portfolio and focus on the integration of the Distributed Common Ground System/Surface System – Special Operations Forces (DCGS-SOF) intelligence portfolio, the geospatial 2D/3D modeling and simulation portfolio and the mission command system / common operating picture capability into a singular enterprise end-to-end mission support capability for SOF operators. The Senior Software Engineer/ Architect will have the ability to experience and engage with cutting edge technology being developed, to include application enterprise virtualization technology, cloud computing, artificial intelligence/machine learning, full motion video, all source fusion technologies, advanced analytics, data management, data storage, signal intelligence activities and the associated hardware needed to employ such capabilities. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Positions in the Institute of Applied Engineering may require a security clearance or non-disclosure agreement. RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide guidance and direction to all PM MSS portfolio engineers for the development, integration, testing, and sustainment for all PM MSS portfolio software and hardware. Plan, conduct, coordinate, and advise on projects, tests, and programs of broad scope and complexity involving DoD network centric enterprise service issues and the Defense Intelligence and Security Enterprise (DISE). Develop and implement a framework for the specification of the DCGS-SOF, geospatial, and mission command physical components, network architecture and the functional organization and configuration as well as the data formats used in operation. Assess compliance within USSOCOM procedural standards, systems, architectures and analyzes capabilities, problems and issues, coordinating test concepts and plans to assess or verify interoperability/operational effectiveness and suitability in support of technical projects. Independently resolve problems impacting projects that extend across the breadth of the MSS portfolio. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: MINIMUM: This position requires a Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related field and at least two years of engineering research experience. A Ph.D. in Engineering or Computer Science may be substituted for the required work experience. Work experience may not be substituted for the Master's degree. PREFERRED: Master's degree in Engineering or Computer Science and at least four years of engineering research experience. Experience with modern software systems design and engineering knowledge and understanding of the principles, methods, and tools for integrating software and hardware components into a functional system or prototype. Experience with network engineering concepts, principles, theories and methods for the design, development, analysis, testing, and securing of hybrid-cloud and edge computing networks. Experience with installing, integrating, and optimizing information systems. Experience with configuring, managing, and sustaining modern complex data management systems appropriate for diverse types of data, security mechanisms, ingestion, REST services, and discovery. TS/SCI eligible, a current TS/SCI is preferred
