Accountabilities:

  • Actively create, own and drive strategic plans around data architecture and design.
  • Engage with business, product and engineering teams on requirements and design of conceptual, logical and physical data models
  • Partner with internal and external business partners to translate business needs into data requirements.
  • Deliver data model design for enterprise data warehouse and data marts.
  • Define and oversee data design including naming standards, best practices and guidelines.
  • Design and build semantic layer for business intelligence and analytic use cases
  • Develop canonical data model for critical data domains to ease data integration and consumption
  • Contribute to data modeling education and training programs for the company
  • Deliver guidance on data modeling tooling and practices

Skills:

  • Proven experience in multiple type of data modeling techniques (conceptual, logical, physical, semantic, etc.)
  • Expertise in data warehousing approaches (Kimball, Inmon), normalized and de-normalized data models including dimensional schemas (star, snowflake)
  • Able to understand relationships within data and can design models which eases acquisition, processing and consumption of data
  • Expertise in data modeling for transactional processing (OLTP) along with operational reporting and analytics (OLAP, data lake, data warehouse) environments
  • Strong knowledge on data warehousing, data marts, data lakes, business intelligence, SQL and NoSQL data stores.
  • Ability to think outside the box and coming up with new, innovative solutions to accomplish problems, ideas and tasks
  • Ability to evaluate and recommend solutions which will be used across the enterprise
  • Oversee multiple work efforts at once and assure that they deliver expected outcomes within their stated timelines
  • Solve problems quickly and learn/adapt from mistakes. Work using lean and agile methods to be able to quickly address issues
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving experience
  • Strong organizational, time management, prioritization skills
  • Initiate timely follow up and be a self-starter with the ability to manage and complete abstract assignments
  • Build strong collaborative working relationships with leadership and team members
  • Must be flexible and open to incorporating new tools and solutions in order to deliver best results to the business
  • Ability to work as a team member - player/coach, creating and maintaining effective working relationships
  • Possesses excellent writing and verbal communications skills and the ability to understand and communicate concepts and recommendations
  • Effectively understand and deal with problems and opportunities, which arise, in a complex environment is crucial.

Preferred Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience with data modeling, database design and data analytics
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working within a data warehouse/data lake environment
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with modeling toolsets (I.e. Erwin or other applicable tools)
  • Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) or similar certification which demonstrates knowledge and expertise in Data Management and Data Modeling
  • Knowledge and modeling in the insurance and financial services industry

This job is not covered by the existing Collective Bargaining Agreement.
