The University of South Carolina (Columbia), Thomas Cooper Library, Oral History, seeks qualified applicants for the temporary position of oral history assistant. This temporary position has the possibility of annual contract renewal. The oral history collections consist of more than 3,000 interviews documenting the lives and culture of South Carolinians since the mid-20th century. In addition, the oral history department actively collaborates with community members on and off campus to develop and create new oral history collections on a wide variety of topics.

The assistant will support the work of the oral history department processing and cataloging interviews and collections, editing transcripts and writing interview summaries, and assisting with digital audio preservation and website design. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with library faculty and staff as well as students.

Qualifications

The position requires, at minimum, a bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years’ experience in an office setting. Attention to detail and interest in history required. Knowledge of WordPress a plus. A successful background check and credit check are required.
