Boeing’s Advanced Ground Systems (AGS) is growing and requires the support of an infrastructure automation lead.  The AGS team is responsible for delivering IT services to a number of customers both internal and external.  The Infrastructure Automation Engineer is part of the Infrastructure Team working closely alongside other technical teams, service management and program functions.

Position Responsibilities:

This role is working in a traditional infrastructure team bringing elements of a DevOps practice to enable agility and automation.  This is creating and maintaining the automation for the delivery of software products within a micro service based design.  It would suit an individual currently in a DevOps environment or with good experience of automation who wants the challenge of being involved at the beginning of this transformation!

The Infrastructure Automation Engineer will be responsible for developing and automating workflows, by taking existing practices and applying code to improve both efficiency and insight. Working at the highest level to provide automation and integration to custom software solutions through to the underlying infrastructure that is complex in nature.

Engineer will work alongside traditional infrastructure, middleware and application teams to enhance the existing support and delivery functions through development of ‘Infrastructure as Code’ and software packaging and deployment techniques

The successful candidate will be working across multiple teams to enhance the user experience and delivery of a suite of custom applications, improving delivery and efficiencies in a strict ITIL governed environment

This role will report the Infrastructure Manager/Lead.

This position requires an active Top Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.).

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate degree of Science from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
  • 7+ years of experience working in a cross functional environments.
  • 7+ years of experience working on large scale complex development programs using strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • 3+ years of experience with CI / CD tools such as Jenkins or Bamboo.
  • 3+ years of experience with automation and configuration management using either VMware, Puppet, Chef, or an equivalent
  • 2+ years of experience of containerization such as orchestration with Kubernetes and Rancher.
  • UNIX/Linux or Wintel systems administration skills, including configuration, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and scripting
  • Fluency in scripting languages such as bash, Ruby, PowerShell, Python or Node.js
  • Good knowledge of TCP/IP networking protocols and security principles at all layers of the stack from networking to applications
  • Work closely with other teams across the business to improve efficiency of infrastructure such as service management and document automation standards to be followed by the organization.
  • Understanding of Agile and other development processes and methodologies

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Create, research and development of new automation solutions and product offerings for infrastructure services.
  • Experienced in using Static Code Analysis for application vulnerabilities
  • Experience of working within a secure environment

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 20 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+15 years' related work experience, Master+18 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
