JOB DESCRIPTION: Full time, temporary seasonal position. The intended period of need from October 1, 2020 -June 30, 2021 Pre-Commercial Thinning: Carries fuel, oil, and operates a chainsaw, weighing approximately 30 pounds, cutting trees 12-15 years old, and brush clearing. Undesirable and diseased trees will be cut with the use of a chainsaw. Selected limbs of standing trees will also be cut to enhance the trees growth. Trees, limbs and brush that have been cut will be piled and covered for future disposal in a prescribed manner. Commercial Tree Planting: The employee will clear an area with a planting shovel, dig a hole, place a seedling in the hole and cover the hole back up to secure the seedling. The employee must be able to carry a planting bag with several seedlings, weighing approximately 50 lbs., up and down steep, rugged terrain. Training provided if needed. All work performed in remote areas on steep, 30% - 60%, terrain. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Requirements: 1-month experience performing commercial tree planting and or pre-commercial thinning. Must be available to work in each of the counties named and complete the entire season. No education requirements are needed, training available if needed. Transportation provided by the company to and from the worksites at no expense to the employee. Work will be performed in the following counties in Washington State: Lewis, Pierce, Pacific, Grays Harbor, Thurston, Clallam, Wahkiakum, Jefferson. Most of the work will require departure from Yelm, WA. When work is conducted outside of the general commuting area and when hotel accommodations are required, the cost of the hotel rooms are provided by Sierra Reforestation and at no cost to the employee. Must be able to plant the following number of trees: in an 8-hour day by end of 1st week – 800 by end of 2nd week – 900 by end of 3rd week - 1000 trees. Must be able to work in safe manner. HOURS/DAYS/SCHEDULE: Hours: 40 hours a week, 7am to 3:30pm, Monday through Friday. No overtime is expected. SALARY/WAGE/BENEFITS: Wage: Wage ranges from $13.50 to $13.89 per hour, depending in which county work is performed. Frequency: Bi-weekly If the prevailing wage is increased by the U.S. Department of Labor during the course of the season, the employee's wage will increase accordingly. Taxes will be deducted according to law. The company will provide workers at no charge all tools, supplies and equipment required to perform the job, as per 20CFR655.20(k). The employer will use a single workweek as its standard for computing wages due. Workers are paid every two (2) weeks. The employer will make all deductions from the worker's paycheck required by law. If relocation is required by a worker who is hired, who does not resided in the area of employment, whether in the U.S. or abroad, travel expenses and subsistence will be paid to each worker based on what is specified under 655.173 transportation (including meals, at least $12.68 per day not to exceed $55.00 a day and, to the extent necessary, lodging, not to exceed $100.00 a night, receipts required), from their current abode to the place of employment, Thurston County, WA, if the worker completes 50% of the employment period covered by the job order, which is consistent with 20CFR655.20(j)(1)(i). Payment of said expenses and subsistence will be paid within 3 days after the completion of the 50% of the contract period by check, paid to the worker. The employer will assist in helping the employee locate housing in the Thurston County area which is paid for by the employee. Return transportation and daily subsistence to the area from which the worker left from in order to take this job will be provided if the worker completes the employment period or is dismissed from employment for any reason by the employer before the end of the period. Transportation provided at no cost to the employee from designated pick up points to each job site and in between the job sites. The majority of the work will be conducted within driving distance from Thurston County. The company will reimburse the H-2B worker in the first workweek for all visa, visa processing, border crossing and other related fees, including those mandated by the government, incurred by the H-2B worker.
