Director of Programs

Position Overview:

The Director of Programs will manage HPAC programs that directly serve Hunts Point children and families working to increase service levels, refine the use of data to target specific interventions, align communication and impact across programs, and cultivate relationships with community partners that are critical for successful program implementation. The Director of Programs reports directly to Executive Director.

Specifically, the Director will have five areas of focus:

  • Managing teams that provide direct services and programs to ensure efficient and effective implementation.

  • Working side-by-side with HPAC community partners to successfully execute collaborative programming.

  • Leading data collection and evaluation efforts across the organization to effectively communicate programmatic impact and determine where improvements can be made.

  • Overseeing the coordination of special community events.

  • Leading programmatic staff onboarding, supervision, and professional development.

  • This position is a key member of the organization leadership team and as the organization continues to scale, will have opportunities for professional growth.

    Responsibilities:

    • Manage programmatic staff and effectively delegate tasks to increase and improve operational efficiency of all programs.

    • Lead all program evaluation activities including supervising the collection and entry of data, conducting monthly site evaluations, analyzing outcomes, reporting impacts, and making data-driving programmatic decisions.

    • Assist program leadership with ongoing evaluation and self-assessments of current staff to ensure goals are defined and being achieved.

    • Lead the recruitment and onboarding of new staff.

    • Build partnerships and regularly interact with community organizations, to successfully execute programs, conduct site visits, effectively recruit students, and serve as a thought partner during meetings.

    • Collaborate with program partners and community based organizations to plan and execute special events including, determining site logistics, recruiting students, troubleshooting issues, and promoting HPAC as an effective community convener.

    • Guide the development and implementation of the curriculum throughout the school year, and review the ongoing impact and success of students.

    • Lead weekly team meetings with programmatic staff to ensure effective implementation.

    • Oversee the High School Pipeline Manager to implement scholarship distributions and renewals and the high school admission process.

    • Supervise the College Access and Success Manager in the creation of college going culture in Hunts Point as part of a Graduate NYC College Completion Innovation Fund grant.

    • Serve as a thought partner with the Executive Director and advise on the status of all programming and progress.

    • Oversee field trips and special events.

    • Other duties as needed, requested or assigned by the Executive Director.

    Core Qualifications:

    • At least 5-7 years of experience in program management in early education, youth development, social work, or other related fields.

    • A Bachelors Degree in early education, child development, or a related social field.

    • Experience directly managing programmatic teams to ensure the efficient and effective delegation of tasks and responsibilities.

    • Capacity to oversee data collection and analysis efforts and experience using data to make programmatic decisions.

    • Evidenced commitment to serving children and families in poverty.

    • Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and versatile while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency.

    • Ability to anticipate, understand, and respond to the needs of staff and program participants to meet or exceed their expectations within the organization’s parameters.

    • Evidenced experience working cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance overall effectiveness.

    • Ability to assess situations to determine importance, urgency, and risks, and make clear decisions, which are timely and in the best interests of HPAC.

    • Skilled at setting priorities, monitoring progress towards goals, and tracking details, data, information and activities.
