The Donor Relations Manager is responsible for the administration and management of Donor Relations for the Development Office partnering with and supporting a team of four major and principal gift fundraisers. The primary emphasis of this position will be on individual major and principal gift proposal writing and stewardship report writing to significantly strengthen fundraising and enhance major donor relationships and good will towards Joslin Diabetes Center. In the current environment, this role will allow for remote/virtual interviewing as well as having the ability to begin remotely. Responsibilities: Oversee the development, management, and implementation of a revitalized, innovative, and best-in-class donor relations program to complement the objectives of the overall fundraising goals of the Development Office. Develop narrative and financial proposals for the purposes of soliciting and stewarding philanthropic support of $100,000+ individual gifts and nonfederal grants. Subject matter will focus on fundamental and translational research and clinical programs that span Joslin Diabetes Center and other priority initiatives. Initiate, write and compile annual endowment stewardship reports and accompanying financials for individual endowed funds. Develop clear and concise content and text with the ability to work independently in novel and diverse subject areas. Comprehension of highly advanced scientific research, and skill to translate that significance in writing for sophisticated lay audiences imperative. Support the major and principal gift team with individualized and highly specialized acknowledgment letters for gifts of $100,000 +. Manage a system to prioritize, prepare, send, and track major and principal gift stewardship reports for restricted gifts (currently gifts of $25,000+) and endowed funds (currently $100,000+) as well as special stewardship requests. Manage a system to prioritize, prepare, and track major gift proposals (currently $100,000+), as well as any special proposal requests. Responsible for the development and implementation of Donor Recognition Plans, which may include special acknowledgement letters, press release, plaque, recognition gift, event announcement, and/or signage, for selected gifts (currently $1 million+), as well as any special donor recognition requests. Collaborate with appropriate development staff on the design and execution of selected stewardship events including in-person stewardship reports and dedication ceremonies. Develop and manage a Joslin plaque database in order to maintain an accurate and historic archive of plaques. Manage funding and naming opportunities activity. Develop and maintain Donor Relations policies and guidelines including those for plaques, endowments, new funds, etc. Develop and sustain excellent working relationships at all levels of the organization to generate interest and participation in stewardship initiatives. In collaboration with the Development Team, prepare the annual operating plan for Donor Relations, which includes a complete review of the previous year’s activities and sets specific goals for the coming year. Prepare the Donor Relations annual budget and track expenses on a monthly basis. Attendance at selected events required. Work as necessary to successfully meet established goals and objectives. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree 5-7 years of development experience with an established track record in fundraising or other development-related experience, preferably in healthcare or academic medicine. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and an openness to embracing new technology. Proficiency in a donor or membership based database (Raiser’s Edge) Utilize the fundraising database (Raiser’s Edge) to manage and track planned actions and accomplished moves with constituents. Strong knowledge of the utilization of information systems to support stewardship initiatives. Solid stewardship experience: demonstrated ability to engage, inform, and interact with donors/prospects. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills: tact, self-confidence and assertiveness, diplomacy, teamwork, good judgment, confidentiality, a sense of humor, and excellent strategic planning skills. Ability to work independently and confidentially, and to interact with donors, patients, and staff in a professional manner. Demonstrated ability to lead collaboration across working groups. Demonstrated ability to effectively represent Joslin to external audiences through the use of strong verbal and written communication skills, especially in ways that enhance a person’s commitment to the organization. Proven ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously as well as the ability to work with multiple partners in leadership positions across Joslin.
