Description
As a member of Santander’s retail banking division you’ll help serve Santander’s retail and small business customers as part of one of the top banks in the United States based on deposits.  With principal presence in the northeast U.S., Santander’s retail division offers consumer and lending products to help our customers reach their financial goals.  Santander currently serves nearly 2 million retail customers and 5.2% of the 2.7 million small businesses in the US footprint have a transactional account with Santander Bank.

The primary function of the Associate, Commercial & Wholesale Operations is complex loan/letter of credit booking, funding, payments and maintenance for the defined lines of business, or executing related controls, utilizing the systems and processes defined by management. The incumbent handles more complex analytical components (i.e. interpreting credit agreements) related to various loan/fee accruals, calculations as well as ongoing/ad-hoc reconciliation and remediation, for commercial loan/letter of credit products, which include new loans, modifications and extensions.

Responsible as a member of the Standby Letter of Credit team to issue, amend, and pay Standby Letters of Credit, provide guidance and expertise to clients and banking staff.  Produce timely and accurate work with recording in multiple systems, ensuring department, legal, credit, and regulatory guidelines are followed.  Set up LC files for billing and collection.  

Responsibilities
  • Manage portfolio of organized documentation for next steps in processing, for audit and regulatory reporting. 
  • Responsible for analyzing business issues and making recommendations to maximize customer satisfaction and operational efficiency. 
  • Work under limited supervision to analyze and solve operational, systems-related, and/or customer issues.  
  • Create and/or maintain reports for both LC data and workplace production, interpret data, and identify trends for management and business partners.  
  • Participate in additional responsibilities and projects as assigned.
  • Provides leadership of unit or team in Loan Operations in absence of manager.
  • Suggests changes or modifications to policies and procedures based on day-to-day observations and activities.
  • Performs additional tasks employing skill and experience in the function.
  • Trains new employees in systems, procedures, and processes.
  • Takes corrective action as necessary and researches complex issues to determine best course for resolution.
  • Completes complex operational transactions and researches issues.
  • Resolves most issues escalated by less experienced employees.
  • Provides information and procedural knowledge for less experienced staff.
  • Performs varied, non-routine and more complex operational tasks to support team.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience - Business or equivalent degree.
  • 5-9 years - Experience with commercial loan operations.
  • Excellent communication, good organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Solid knowledge/skills of Microsoft Office Suite and various bank systems.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and be a team player.
  • Working knowledge in Commercial Banking.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong knowledge of the Syndicated and Commercial Loan products and markets.
  • Ability to review and interpret legal documentation supporting these products.
  • In depth knowledge of market initiatives to streamline and automate Middle Office support functions.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices for Syndicated and Commercial loans.
  • Knowledge of Banking Regulations and Standard Practices.
  • Expertise in continuously reviewing workflow and the ability to functionalize ideas for organizational change. 
  • Ensure all departmental structural and procedural changes are implemented where necessary.
  • Ability to clearly convey complex concepts and issues in a concise way.
