The Cellular Translational Research Core (CTRC) is searching for a proficient molecular biologist. This lab technician will be primarily responsible for running quality control assays on DNA from human blood and tissue for genetic studies. The CTRC is a service-oriented laboratory. Our primary mission is to provide laboratory services, support, and expertise to investigators in order to accelerate their research. University of Utah Job ID PRN23831B - 01709 - CCTS - PRECISION MEDICINE COMPENSATION: $12.02 to $21.63/hr WORK SCHEDULE: Full Time, 40 hours per week, Variable Shift, Flexible hours coordinated with supervisor. RESPONSIBILITIES: Once trained, must work independently with minimal supervision. Identify key protocols, follow or modify if necessary, and apply these methods to meet our lab’s specific needs. Performs tests and procedures using sophisticated laboratory equipment. Must have skilled hands, be technically precise and meticulous with experimental details. Because our core facility interacts closely with a large number of investigators, professionalism and excellent customer service is expected. Having a good understanding of research ethics is important. It is required that this technician can listen and clearly communicate with customers in a friendly, knowledgeable, accurate, and timely manner. A high level of quality control is important. Proper labeling, sample identification and tracking needs to be maintained at 100%. Human samples must be handled carefully, avoiding contamination at all costs. Makes statistical calculations, analyzes data and prepares reports summarizing results. Have competent computer skills. Identify ways the lab can conserve reagents and supplies, yet be as productive as possible. Weekday work is also flexible, but hours must be coordinated with other staff and approved by the supervisor.
