Job Description

Turning Point Search is seeking a Quality Manager for direct hire with our client, a Tier 1 Automotive manufacturer. The ideal candidate will have experience with automotive welding and assembly processes, and have at least 3 years in a Lead Quality Management role within an automotive manufacturing plant environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead plant level activities to ensure that the quality of all services, materials, products, parts and components produced meets or exceeds customer and company expectations. Translate requirements into plant systems and procedures.
  • Provide development, coaching and counseling to direct reports and conduct annual performance appraisals.
  • Manage audit team and lead product, process, and system audits (IATF).
  • Provide direction to customers and engineering on advanced quality issues and programs. Translate customer requirements into plant systems and procedures. Conduct customer on-site visits as required to evaluate situation and recommend solutions.
  • Develop, manage, and maintain all quality training programs that are delivered to employees (operators, inspectors, engineering, and management).
  • Ensure all new processes and changes to existing processes are capable to meet customer and company expectations.
  • Submit accurate PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) packages to the customer for final approval and to ensure all quality documentation is accurate and up to date, taking into account input from various sources, e.g. Engineering, Production, Quality, etc.
  • Manage the quality systems including receiving, in-process and final inspection according to established standards.
  • Investigate substandard product results and conduct research on product defects in order to make recommendations on changes in materials or processes.
  • Manage the layouts on parts and fixtures to customer drawings and math data. Oversee layouts and inspection checks on engineering fixtures.
  • Review inspection reports and SPC reports from production operators and quality technicians.
  • Review Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing, SC's and KPC's with customers on new programs.
  • Assist with the design of experiments to determine what parameters affect the end product and recommend solutions.
  • Develop and maintain annual budget for department. Oversee purchase requisitions.
  • Facilitate customer presentations on quality systems and develop all required materials/handouts.
  • Maintain positive employee relations and address issues in a timely manner.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five (5) years work-related experience in a Quality department coupled with previous supervisory experience.
  • Must have automotive manufacturing plant quality experience with welding and assembly processes.
  • Must have experience managing an Audit team (product, process and system). Certified IATF Auditor a plus.
  • Good understanding of Quality System and APQP relationship.
  • Strong understanding of core quality tools (APQP, FMEA, MSA, SPC, PPAP).
  • Must have manufacturing shop floor experience (inspection, control of non-conforming products, scrap alert controls).
  • Ability to manage customer-specific requirements, customer audit requirements, deviation process.
  • General working knowledge of inspection equipment i.e. high gauges, verniers, calipers, micrometers, shadow grams, etc. that assist in the part inspection process.
  • Effective use of problem-solving techniques (8D, 5Why, Is/Is Not, Fishbone).
  • Sound understanding of SPC and design experiments.
  • Excellent time management and project management skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to facilitate training programs in an effective manner.
  • Ability to manage and direct employees in a constructive manner.
  • Ability to understand and read blueprint drawings.
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
