                                             Human Resources Generalist

                                                                                                                   Palm Springs Regional Office

 
GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB: 
Under the direction of the Human Resources Business Partner, the Regional Human Resources Generalist performs people function responsibilities related to: implementation of HR strategies; plan, organize, implement, and monitor talent management and employee relations; provide guidance and direction in compensation, benefits, and performance matters; and support internal staffing and/or succession management.
As an HR generalist to the Regional Leader, the successful candidate must possess HR thought leadership, results-orientated and process discipline. Additionally, the HR generalist must have strong business acumen, establish collaborative relations with the management team, and effectively foster employee relations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
 
 
  • Maintain frequent and effective communication with Regional Leader and other regional managers to apprise on all critical activities, employee incidences and status of all ongoing projects.
  • Provide counsel, feedback and coaching on issues process, and all people related actions.
  • Provide forward-looking counsel, coaching and creative solutions that enhance individual and organizational performance.
  • Conduct new hire orientations and secure complete documentation for new hires including payroll related documentation. Ensure all other HR documentation (for example, disciplinary notices) is provided to corporate HR in a timely fashion.
  • Oversee payroll and time reporting processes for the region, ensuring accurate and timely submission of payroll. 
  • Coordinate with Home Office HRIS to ensure that all personnel data in HRIS system is accurate.
  • Conduct exit interviews and secure all termination-related documentation.
  • Review policies and procedures with staff and managers as needed and answers questions. Counsel individual employees within established Think guidelines.
  • Report all harassment matters (observed, reported, or suspected) immediately to Home Office; ensure appropriate actions are taken and monitor/record results.
  • Implement the regional office’s safety plan and respond to and document emergencies or injuries involving employees, volunteers or students at the regional office or its sites. Follow up on workers’ compensation claims as requested.
  • Attend meetings and provide scheduled or as-requested reports and updates on deadline.
  • Maintain highest degree of confidentiality in student, staff, and management matters.
  • Ensure all regional required Compliance postings are current and placed in the appropriate locations.
  • Ensure all appropriate hardcopy and electronic regional personnel and payroll records are identified, collected, reviewed for accuracy and transferred to the Employee File of Record in a timely manner.
  • Monitor, identify and report all incidents of potential employment violations, (observed, reported or suspected) immediately to the Director of Human Resources.
  • Conduct internal investigations as may be necessary and ensure appropriate actions are taken in a timely manner.
  • Implement regional worker health and safety plans. Respond to inquiries, emergencies or injuries involving employees, volunteers, or students. Provide local support on Workers Compensation claims as requested.
  • Maintain highest degree of confidentiality in student, staff, and management matters.

  • Willing to perform general administrative tasks (filing, data entry, etc.) as needed to complete the workload.
  • Able to work independently with minimal oversight to complete heavy documentation and telephone workload.
  • Able to read and interpret such documents as safety plans, procedure manuals, employee handbook. 
  • Able to write clear and concise reports and correspondence using good grammar.
  • Able to speak effectively before groups of employees.
  • Math skills sufficient to compute costs, payroll data, percentages, etc.
  • Willing to work occasional evenings and weekends.
 
EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE: 
  • Bachelor's Degree in required; business, human resources or related subject preferred.
  • At least three years’ experience in a human resource function including experience with hiring processes, legal compliance, and decision support. 
  • 2-3 years working knowledge of ADP Payroll, preferred.
  • the equivalent of 5 years minimum of HR experience in progressively responsible roles. Or Some College course work along with experience consistent with 5-8 years of responsible HR experience with strong working knowledge of California State and Federal employment law, regulations to include Wage & Hour, Title VII, FLMA, CFRA, ADA.  Bachelor’s preferred.
  • Working knowledge and high proficiency with Microsoft Office Suites
  • Exceptional organizational skills to manage broad scope job responsibilities essentially employee relations investigations and site administration.
  • Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills.
